It was a great day yesterday for the Port of Churchill and northern Manitoba!

We're grateful to celebrate the return of grain shipments with our friends and ownership nations from Manitoba Keewatinowi Okimakanak Inc., represented by Okimakan Morris Beardy of Fox Lake Cree Nation.

Chief Betsy Kennedy, of War Lake First Nation, and Churchill Mayor Mike Spence represented the Arctic Gateway Group.

The Honourable Rebecca Chartrand spoke to the strong support of Canada, and the Honourable Lisa Naylor MLA for Wolseley and the Honourable Ron Kostyshyn MLA for Dauphin spoke to the dedicated support of the Province of Manitoba.

We were also grateful to be joined by Saskatchewan MLA James Thorsteinson - Cut Knife Turtleford to celebrate the role Saskatchewan producers played in growing the durum we're shipping to Europe. Thanks also to AGT Foods, who supplied this shipment of wheat as well as the two further shipments to follow.

Georgina Berg started the day off with a beautiful blessing and drum song.

And of course, the dedicated crews at the Port of Churchill and Hudson Bay Railway made it all possible!

As Canada is attacked by our southern neighbour, we're working to open up the north to greater trade, investment, and opportunity. Owned by 29 First Nations and 12 northern communities, we're transforming what's possible in the north and making sure the Port of Churchill is ready when Canadians need it most.

Thanks to Prime Minister Mark Carney and the Government of Canada for their continued support - together we’re going to make sure the Port of Churchill and Hudson Bay Railway play a strong role in diversifying Canadian trade, getting western Canadian resources to market, increasing Canada’s presence in the Arctic, and advancing Indigenous economic reconciliation!

Diversifying our exports. Building a stronger, more independent Canadian economy.
