This May, head guides Chris and Jeannie took Joris and Joyce, a couple visiting all the way from Belgium, out for a Green Lake Adventure Paddle.

Their feedback is a reflection of the passion and care that Chris and Jeannie bring to every tour, and the standard they set for the wider Whistler Eco Tours guiding team.

We’re proud to share that Whistler Eco Tours has been recognised as a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice winner for 2025, placing us in the top 10% of experience providers worldwide. This recognition belongs to our guides, and to every guest who takes the time to share their experience.

Thank you for the continued support!

As the snow melts and the season changes, the landscape in Whistler transforms with vibrant spring growth and the emergence of wildlife. Here is what we’ve seen so far this season:

Fairy Slipper Orchid (Calypso Bubosa) - One of BCs rarest wildflowers, it emerges for only a few weeks each spring on old-growth forests! Photo taken from one of our Ancient Cedar hiking tours in May.

Pacific Dogwood (Cornus Nuttallii) - BCs floral emblem has been in full bloom along the river banks, as a marker of spring, the dogwood tends to bloom in May and June. Photo taken from one of the first Waterfall Explorer hiking tours in May

Canada geese - A nesting pair and their first goslings of the season, spotted along the River of Golden Dreams!

Black bears - Moving through the valley, at this point in the season the bears are coming out of hibernation and start grazing on early sprouting plants before the berries come out!

The moss-carpeted old-growth forest - showing centuries of accumulated growth, supporting one of the most biodiverse environments on the coast. Photo taken from an Ancient Cedar hiking tour

North American beaver - active on the River of Golden Dreams, the beaver dams they make along the river add an extra challenge to the adventure!

New Kayak Fleet - Old Town V***r 12XT

Over the last couple of weeks, our guides and guests have been testing out the new fleet. Stable and forgiving on the open water of Alta Lake and Green Lake, and maneuverable enough to handle the currents and obstacles on the River of Golden Dreams. A sealed stern hatch keeps valuables and gear dry, adjustable footrests ensure a comfortable fit, and the padded seat means you’ll actually enjoy the longer stretches.

As an eco tour company, investing in high quality, durable equipment is a priority. We buy well, maintain our fleet carefully, and get the most out of every vessel. When equipment is retired, it still has plenty of life left in it. Our 24/25 fleet is still available for private purchase - https://canva.link/wet2026ex-rentalsale

You may have noticed the new kayaks are red, so you’ll go extra fast. Come test them out for yourself; book a tour or rental - whistlerecotours.com

River Of Golden Dreams Conditions Report

Summer has arrived early in Whistler and that means the River of Golden Dreams is running high & fast!

High water levels create a smoother journey with less obstacles and the fast moving water makes an easy journey; requiring less padding. Ideal conditions for confident paddlers!

We offer self guided, guided and private guided tours of the river of Golden Dreams. Launching from Wayside park, on the far side of Alta lake, offers a unique vantage point of the coastal mountain ranges and a journey that gives paddlers the opportunity to practise their strokes on the lake before reaching the fast-moving water.

All tour options include a safety briefing, stroke and tour overview, and transport to and from the village. Our guides hold paddling and first aid certifications and bring extensive experience on the river. In addition to navigating the water, they share their knowledge of local flora and fauna, Whistler’s history and a local perspective along the way.

Guide Highlight: Jeannie Chisom

As one of the longest-standing members of the Whistler Eco Tours team, Jeannie brings decades of experience as a professional guide; ski instructing, hiking guiding and tour guiding, here in BC but also all around the world.

Jeannie’s passion for the outdoors, exploration and travel is genuine. Originally from BC she has lived, worked and studied across different continents to explore languages and cultures. From living on a houseboat in Calabria, teaching English in Naples, studying in Guadalajara, to mountain guiding through grizzly country in the Rockies - Jeannie has a unique wealth of experience, knowledge and passion, that she shares generously.

In addition to guiding tours and leading groups, she trains and mentors the Eco Tours guiding team. Whether going above and beyond for guests or taking extra time to give advice to a colleague, her dedication is informed by passion.

She is a critical part of our team and it’s no surprise she is one of the most requested WET guides and has most requested WB ski instructor (every year since 2010).

We are lucky to have her!
