Attention Drone Pilots! The Abbotsford International Airshow is this weekend✈️

Major aviation events like airshows can involve temporary airspace restrictions, active NOTAMs, controlled airspace, nearby aerodromes and heliports, and overlapping aviation chart layers.

For the Abbotsford International Airshow, restricted airspace is active near Abbotsford Airport under a Section 5.1 Aeronautics Act NOTAM. Unauthorized aircraft operations, including RPAS, are not permitted in the restricted area without authorization from the controlling agency.

So this weekend, we suggest leaving the drone at home unless you have specific authorization.

For drone pilots, wildfire activity is not just a hazard on the ground.

Wildfires can mean dense smoke, reduced visibility, thermal updrafts, restricted airspace, and emergency aircraft operating nearby. That means flying a drone near a wildfire is not only unsafe, it can interfere with emergency response operations.

Under the Canadian Aviation Regulations, airspace within 5 nautical miles of a forest fire and up to 3,000 feet AGL is restricted.

AIM Robotics is preparing to bring a market-shaping platform to low-altitude airspace operations, and yesterday we had the opportunity to share an early look with the Honourable Mélanie Joly, Minister of Industry, ahead of its launch.

This was more than a product demonstration.

It was a preview of technology built to address one of the most urgent operational challenges facing public safety, defence, airports, and critical infrastructure today: identifying low-altitude airspace risks sooner, improving situational awareness, and enabling faster, more confident response.

The platform brings together two new capabilities:
Drone First Responder as a Service platform.
Our low-altitude airspace intelligence technology.

Together, these capabilities reflect AIM Robotics’ focus: Canadian-built dual-use technology designed for faster response, stronger situational awareness, and real operational control.

Canada’s innovation future depends on companies building sovereign capability here at home. We are proud to be building technology that supports public safety, security, and resilience in Canada and beyond.
