Our mission to find a bigger vehicle is an on going battle however we have figured out a few options on what we want to pursue.

Option one: a school bus, though it’s nice to have lots of space so make larger transports most buses don’t heat the rear and our initial investment wouldn’t cover cost of retro fitting it within a good time frame.

Option two: an old ambulance, yes they have the room but most ambulances now don’t allow the driver to get to the back if they need to. Would also have to gut it from all medical units.

Option three: a mail man truck, lots of space, driver can walk to the back no problem, easy to install permanent kennel (the ones you see at the vet), lost of space but not too much space.

Each of these options comes with pros and cons of their own. We have been looking more at the mail trucks. There is one close to us that right now is priced at $12,900. We did talk to the owner of the place it’s at and if I can raise enough money to make a decent offer he would bring the price down. There is also one up for auction March 28th in Saskatoon at PBR auction house.

The demand for transports is outrageous! This coming weekend alone with 2 drivers we are looking at about 60 animals. There are many more requests than what we can fill with just our minivan. Right now we have only $2000 for a vehicle however if anyone wants to help us fundraise to help towards a larger vehicle we would greatly appreciate the help. We will be launching a fundraiser soon.

Do any of our rescue friends in SK happen to have a cargo van we could borrow next weekend march 21st to march 24th? We have a large transport going out to Alberta. We have contacted U-Haul and enterprise and it’s not fees-able for us.

PUPPY AND KITTEN OVERLOAD!

On Monday we set out on another transport. We had 42 souls on board this time. We were packed to the brim! As much as we love our transport van a larger vehicle is needed to keep up with the high demand of larger transports. 42 wasn’t even the original number we had a few dogs that didn’t make this transport. We met with numerous parties to make this as full as we could. From Prince Albert to Edmonton all the way to Red Deer. We also wanna extend great thanks to everyone who continues to show dedication by using us as their primary transport service.

In the new year we will be launching a few different things to try to raise money to purchase a larger vehicle. Fundraiser ideas are welcome. Our goal is to reach $10,000 as a down deposit or to buy out right. We have a few vehicles in mind but also open to suggestions.

Today Critter Comfort hit a big milestone!

1,004 animals as of today have been transported using our services!

1,004 lives changed and many more to come!

Critter comfort has been transporting animals since 2023 and to be only 2.5 years into this and able to hit this milestone is huge for us. We want to thank all of the rescues and front liners who continue to use us as their trusted transporting service. Many more years to come helping voiceless animals get 2nd chances at finding their forever home.

We have some unfortunate updates and some happy updates on our kittens in care.

Happy update is that Doc, Dylan, Dash and clementine have gone to new foster homes for SOS prairie rescue in Saskatoon. Mamas of all kittens are doing very well as well. Next week Bobby, Beverly, Basil and Bailey will be weaned, vaccinated and dewormed ready for new homes.

Unfortunate update is that Camellia, Avaline, Apple and Angle have all taken a walk over the rainbow bridge. 😔 Cause of death is unknown. This year has been terrible for kitten deaths without warning all over. Please spay and neuter your pets. It’s been a devastating week but we must push forward and care for the ones who remain.

What have we been up to?

Saturday June 21st we made a trip from Prince Albert to Saskatoon to Calgary area to Red deer then back home.

Sunday we brought 8 more cats into care making us have 4 moms with litters! We have a total of 13 kittens ranging 8 weeks to 2 weeks old now. 3 of the moms will be spayed and returned. We also have an adult female who is not with a litter in care as well. We don’t have fosters as we are just starting out with our own rescue side of things. In total we have 5 adult cats and 13 kittens.

First 9 photos of animals from the transport, last 3 photos of cats/kittens that came into care.

On June 5th we mentioned one of the evacuated cats we took in had given birth. Mama nova had 4 kittens, unfortunately one of the kittens had to be put down due to a full cleft face. That same night we had capped out our available space for foster cats from the evacuation with a total number of 8 adult cats. Novas kittens are all females 2 calicos and 1 tortoiseshell.
Yesterday June 12th 6 of our 8 adult cats were sent home as their owners were able to return home as well. Last night our other mama Lil Belle had her kittens. She also had 4 kittens all healthy, 1 male and 3 females. 2 are grey and white and the other two are grey tabbies.

All kittens need name suggestions!

Last night we opened our door to 3 more cats that were evacuated from La Ronge. This time there was a heavily pregnant cat with 2 younger cats. Well this evening we were surprised with the sound of little meows coming from our cat room. Mama nova is having her kittens right now. So glad we were able to help provide a safe place for her kittens to be born. Photos to come later.

Tonight we open our doors to displaced pets being evacuated from the northern Saskatchewan communities. Tonight we are taking in 4 cats and housing them until they can be reunited with their families. We are asking for donations in the form of cat food dry and wet, bedding, monetary to get supplies, and any other things you can think of would be greatly appreciated!

If you are evacuated quickly and have to leave pets and free roaming dogs behind, here are some things you can do to help them and the animals in your community:

Fill pails, buckets, pools, literally anything you can with water. Weigh them down with rocks so they don’t blow away.

Write your phone number with sharpie on their collar. Take a picture of them and your house to help rescue efforts.

Notify any neighbours or community members who may not leave that you have pets being left behind, to care for them.

Do not tie animals up, lock them indoors, or board them up on decks. They need to be able to run from the fires.
