Have you heard? returns to Canada Place on July 1!

Grab your friends and family and join us on Vancouver’s waterfront for one of Canada’s largest July 1 celebrations — featuring live music, cultural performances, food trucks, family activities, interactive exhibits, an Indigenous Marketplace, and more across five city blocks.

This year’s celebration is extra special as Canada Place marks 40 years as an iconic waterfront landmark. Plus, Juno Award-winning band The Strumbellas will headline the main stage to close out the day 🎶

Thank you to the Musqueam Indian Band, Squamish Nation, and Tsleil-Waututh Nation, along with the many partners and sponsors who help make this event possible for connection, learning and celebration.

What does the future of lower-emission goods movement look like at the Port of Vancouver? 🚛⚡

Battery-electric container trucks are now operating at the port as part of a pilot program helping promote the adoption of alternative fuels and technologies in port operations.

The Electric Container Trucking Program provides participating container trucking companies with subsidized five-year leases and supporting charging infrastructure. The pilot phase includes five companies operating six battery-electric trucks.

The initiative will provide valuable real-world insights into truck performance, charging requirements, and operational considerations to help inform future decisions on the adoption of battery electric container trucks.

Thank you to the Government of British Columbia Transport Canada, 7Gen , and BC Hydro for their partnership and support in driving this pilot program forward, along with the five trucking companies who are now taking part in the program.

What does the shift to zero-emission port operations look like at other ports?

A recent visit to the ACT Expo / ACT News, Port of Los Angeles and the Port of Long Beach with partners from GCT Global Container Terminals Inc offered a firsthand look at how these industries and ports are deploying zero-emission equipment, building enabling infrastructure, and integrating new technologies into daily operations.

Insights like these help inform how we continue advancing sustainability initiatives and future-ready technologies here in Vancouver—while learning alongside others across the global port community.

We welcome the Government of Canada announcement of new funding that will support multiple initiatives focused on protecting whales and their habitats in waters off Canada’s West Coast 🐋

Part of that funding will be allocated toward the Enhancing Cetacean Habitat and Observation (ECHO) Program, which supports collaborative efforts to better understand and reduce the impacts of commercial shipping activity on at-risk whales.
Thank you to François-Philippe Champagne, Joanne Thompson, Steven MacKinnon, and Stephanie McLean for supporting continued action to help protect at-risk whales in Canadian waters.

We are grateful for this expanded support from the federal government allowing us to continue working closely with the program’s advisors, partners, and more than 80 participating marine transportation organizations.

While important progress has been made, there is still more work ahead. Continued collaboration across industry, governments, Indigenous communities, researchers, and environmental organizations will remain critical to advancing protections for at-risk whales alongside Canada’s growing and diversifying trade needs.

Earlier this month, we hosted the Urban Land Institute British Columbia at our office for an engaging discussion on how infrastructure shapes regional growth.

As part of Urban Land Institute/British Columbia’s Women’s Leadership Initiative Leadership Series, the conversation explored the role major infrastructure systems — including ports, transportation networks, and city‑building investments — play in enabling development, supporting trade, and building resilient, competitive communities.

Thank you to all our speakers, and to everyone who joined us for a thoughtful and engaging discussion. We value the opportunity to host these conversations and connect with partners shaping the region’s future.
