Our fares are NOT going up.

Vancouver is going to be a little busier this summer. Everyone is feeling squeezed. The cost of living is going up, and getting around will be challenging this season. When big events come town, prices often rise.

That’s why we are NOT raising our fares.

With everything that’s coming this summer, we don’t want to be one more barrier. We want to be a practical transportation option so Vancouverites can get around this summer without a car. Books of tickets and commuter passes are a great option for those who ride regularly.

We are Vancouver’s little blue False Creek Ferries.

This was meant for May the 4th, but who has time to edit instagram videos?

A long time ago, in a harbour not so far away...

It is a restless time on FALSE CREEK.
For decades, a brave flotilla of LITTLE BLUE FERRIES
has carried locals, wanderers, and the occasionally lost tourist
through the waters of Vancouver.
But now, from the far eastern reaches of the inlet, there rises a strange and gleaming SPHERE, vast, mysterious, and impossible to ignore. Whispers spread from dock to dock. Could this polished orb signal the end for the humble captains of the creek?
Undaunted, the little blue boats gather once more, setting course on a daring voyage to defend their waters, their passengers, and their modest but dependable fares....

The grey whale that has been hanging out in English Bay these last few days made a surprise visit out by our dock at . As per standard operating procedure, the ferry went into neutral and gave the whale as much room as it could. We know many Vancouverites are concerned about this whale’s well being, and we are too.

The grey whale that has been hanging out in English bay for the last few days made its way a little further into False Creek today. These photos were taken off Sunset Beach, near our ferry stop at the foot of Thurlow St.

A number of people have expressed concern about the ferries possibly getting too close to the whale. We want to reassure the public that we follow proper DFO procedures when whales show up in False Creek, stopping our motors and giving the animals as wide of a berth as possible.

40 years ago today EXPO 86 opened in Vancouver, and we were there! Prince (now King) Charles & the late Princess Diana opened the fair, even paying a special visit to our dock on Granville Island. For the first few weeks of the fair our little blue boats weren’t able to access the fair site, but the powers-that-were soon realized how advantageous a False Creek Ferry connection with could be. It wasn’t long before the fleet was shuttling between the Marine Gate (pretty much where Yaletown Dock is now) and Granville Island as fast as it could. We don’t have many photos from back then, as the crew was too busy driving the boats, but if you look closely you’ll see EXPO Ernie riding on top of the ferries in a couple of shots.

EXPO 86 changed Vancouver in countless ways. It also helped to secure False Creek Ferries as an integral part of the transportation infrastructure of downtown Vancouver.

A grey whale made a surprise visit today in False Creek, surfacing mere meters away from one of our little blue False Creek Ferries. Incredible.
