What do people mean when they say “Mykonos is not Greece”, or “Mykonos has been ruined”?
It means that everything has become overpriced and overcrowded. The main goal shifts from sharing Greek culture to making the most amount of money possible. It’s become increasingly rare to find Greek hospitality on many of these commercial-driven islands.
The same goes for Santorini and Paros, while
Naxos and Milos are on the verge of facing the same fate. If you don’t mind crowds, don’t care much for culture, and have deep pockets, you’ll be just fine. If not, there are 222 other islands to choose from.
