🚨✈️ THINKING ABOUT TRAVELLING TO THE USA, THE UK, OR ANYWHERE ELSE? READ THIS FIRST! ✈️🌍

As a travel advisor, one of the biggest misconceptions I hear is:
“I have a passport, so I’m good to go!”

❌ Unfortunately, that’s not always true. Every country has its own entry requirements, and having a passport does not guarantee admission.

🇺🇸 Travelling to the United States

The United States has strict admissibility rules. If you have certain criminal charges or convictions, you could be denied entry or may need to apply for additional permission before travelling.

One thing that surprises many Canadians is cannabis-related offences. Even though ma*****na is legal in Canada, U.S. federal law is different.

⚠️ For example, a possession of ma*****na charge or conviction from when you were under the age of 19 in Canada could still affect your ability to enter the United States. Every case is assessed individually by U.S. border officials.

Another important fact:
🚫 A Canadian pardon (record suspension) does NOT automatically allow you to enter the United States. U.S. border authorities make their own admissibility decisions under U.S. law, and a pardon in Canada does not guarantee entry.

🇬🇧 Travelling to the United Kingdom

Many travellers now need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) before departure. This is a required pre-travel approval for eligible visitors and should be completed before you fly.

🌎 Other countries have their own requirements too!

Depending on your destination, you may need:
✅ An electronic travel authorization or pre-approval
✅ A tourist visa
✅ A passport with sufficient validity
✅ Additional documentation for children
✅ Proof of onward travel or accommodations
✅ To meet that country’s admissibility requirements

⚠️ The worst way to start a vacation is by arriving at the airport only to find out you’re missing an authorization or are not eligible to enter the country.

💡 Always do your research before you book! If you have a criminal record, cannabis-related offence, impaired driving conviction, or any concerns about your travel history, check the requirements well in advance and seek the appropriate approvals if needed.

Remember: Rules can change, and every traveller’s situation is different. Taking a few minutes to check before you travel could save you thousands of dollars and a lot of disappointment.
