Papua New Guinea (PNG) is easily one of the most culturally fascinating places anywhere with a myriad of exotic and intriguing tribal groups including the Asaro Mudmen, the Wahgi, the Simbu, the Kaguel, the Melpa and the Huli Wigmaen. Our adventure includes many village visits so that we can really meet the people and experience their way of life.
Travel to the highlands including Tari, Mt. Hagen, Goroka and Madang with it's many tribal groups and featuring the famous Signsing festivals.
We explore the Sepik River by wooden canoe exploring a remote and rugged tribal region few travelers will ever get to.
Visit East New Britain province of Papua New Guinea and witness the mystical and breathtaking Baining Fire Dance. The Baining Fire Dance is a very sacred dance. Initiated men dance bare-footed to prove their bravery, walking on fire without their feet being burned, while wearing masks that representing spirits of their ancestors. The drums and songs for this performance are absolutely hypnotic!
Enjoy a snorkeling experience slowly pulled by motor boat to literally swim with dolphins. Encounter amazing birdlife, lush flora, stunning scenery and some of the most fascinating tribal people on earth. From the rugged mountains to the coastal islands, this journey is an adventure of a lifetime

ElderTreks’ 1st Pakistan Adventure is coming to an End!
During this journey through Pakistan, David Roth, our veteran tour leader has been sharing photos with me. I would like to share some of these with you
Photos include lots of mountains and glaciers; groups shots in front of Khaplu Palace, Baltit fort (Hunza) and Lahore fort, Passu glacier; Kunjerab Pass (highest border crossing in the world), ElderTreks’ sponsored polo match in the mountains; and even a snow leopards at a very modest sanctuary in the Naltar valley. We also have a few photos taken during 1 of our mountain flights with views of K2, the world’s second highest mountain. The photo with everyone sitting around a fire with a guest speaker, Col. Sher Khan, Pakistan's most revered mountain climber (who just finished publishing his book - 'Walks in my Backyard'), born into royalty in the Mir's palace in Hunza valley. He not only brought fascinating stories, he also brought some of his homemade wine! Cheers!

Pakistan is possibly the most underrated travel destination on our planet!

As the owner of ElderTreks, I recently returned to Pakistan along with our veteran tour leader David Roth. My first visit was in 1996 and my return visit did not disappoint! Pakistan highlights include great mountain ranges of the Himalayas, Karakoram and Hindu Kush; remote Silk Road Forts & Palaces; ancient Buddhist sites; delicious cuisine; mystic Sufi Shrines; dessert fortresses and some of the most welcoming, hospitable people you can find anywhere! Pakistan has so much to offer despite often not getting the best press internationally. For anyone who visits, you will be pleasantly surprised if not shocked by your encounter. We visit no less than 15 UNESCO sites during our sojourn!

We presently have a full group of 16 travelers who are there right now and several future sold out groups but we have also added new departures for anyone interested as demand for more departures is still high. I will have a follow up post with several photos taken during the Pakistan adventure taking place right now, including site visits and even a local polo tournament sponsored by ElderTreks in Khaplu at 3,000 and surrounded by mountains.

ElderTreks’ Pakistan adventure is 26 days, traveling from the south all the way to the Hunza valley and the Kunjerab Pass in the north, bordering with China. This is the highest paved border crossing in the world lying at an elevation of 4, 693 metres (15,397 ft).
