# Al Capone: The Man Behind the Myth

In the heart of Chicago, a city rife with tension and intrigue, one man stands at the center of controversy: Al Capone. Recently, I had the opportunity to engage in a dialogue with the infamous gangster, whose influence in the Windy City is unparalleled. The questions surrounding his power and methods are as complex as the man himself.
"Mr. Capone," I began, "many have asked why, if you hold such sway over Chicago, you have not been officially appointed to the position of mayor."
He chuckled softly, leaning back in his chair. "You know, it’s true. People say, 'The reformists here say, put that man in jail.' What do they think I am doing?" His eyes sparkled with defiance. "What I hope I’m doing, and here’s where your English papers have a point, is...”
Capone paused, collecting his thoughts. "Let’s talk about this notion of 'bold legging.' What is bold legging? It’s hospitality! I’m a businessman, after all. The expectation is that you control your business through violence, that those who don’t buy your products face the consequences. But you can get further with a kind word."
As he spoke, it became clear that Capone believed in a certain code—a code that, in his eyes, justified his actions. "In that neighborhood, it might have been true," he continued, "and sometimes reputation follows you. Yes, violence exists in Chicago, but not by me, not by anybody I employ."
His words painted a picture of a man who sees himself not just as a criminal, but as a savvy entrepreneur navigating a landscape fraught with challenges. It was a perspective that challenged the black-and-white narrative often portrayed in the media.
