Some races are measured by finish lines, while others are measured by trust, teamwork, and determination.
Livingston's own Albert Ferrer recently served as an assisted running guide for Berni, a visually impaired runner, during a half marathon.
Albert and Berni already knew each other well, as they'd completed the Ribarroja Half Marathon together earlier this year. That connection proved essential. Albert shared that guiding differs significantly from running for yourself, as it requires constant communication, pace adaptation, careful attention to the road, and mutual trust with every step.
While the race didn't end as they'd hoped, Berni suffered an ankle sprain and they couldn't finish, the support from spectators along the route helped make it a memorable experience.
We're glad to share that Berni's already feeling better and staying positive. We hope his recovery is quick, and that he and Albert can complete another half marathon together soon.
Thank you, Albert, for showing true sportsmanship and reflecting the inclusive spirit we value at Livingston.
