📢 We’re Hiring: Full-time English-Speaking Accounting Assistant

Location: Flexible| Working Hours: 5 days × 8.5 hours

About the Role:
Join our team as an Accounting Assistant and play a key role in supporting our Australian financial operations. You’ll ensure the accuracy of daily transactions, maintain our financial records, and collaborate with external stakeholders to keep our books compliant and up-to-date.

✅ Key Responsibilities:
-Perform daily bank reconciliations to ensure all transaction records are accurate
-Manage end-to-end tasks in Zoho Books: invoicing, sales orders, accounts receivable follow-ups, and product data entry
-Assist in preparing & reviewing financial statements (Cash Flow, P&L, Balance Sheet) using Zoho Books’ auto-generated reports
-Prepare monthly financial reports as required (Profit & Loss, Cash Flow Statement, Balance Sheet)
-Support payroll processing, sales commission/bonus calculations, and employee leave entitlement tracking
-Maintain compliance with Australian Accounting Standards and internal financial policies
-Liaise with external accountants to complete BAS statements and annual tax filings
-Assist with monthly/year-end closing procedures and ad-hoc financial analysis tasks
-Other accounting-related tasks assigned by management

🎯 Requirements & Preferences:
-Basic understanding of accounting principles and financial statement structures
-Meticulous attention to detail with a strong focus on data accuracy
-Proficiency in Excel and basic financial analysis tools
-Excellent time management skills to meet deadlines consistently
-Strong communication skills to coordinate effectively with external accountants
-Preferred: Hands-on experience with Zoho Books, BAS reporting, and year-end tax processing
-Fluency in English (required for cross-border collaboration)

Recruiting across borders is never just about resumes and interviews. It’s full of tiny, hilarious, and heartwarming surprises! Today I’m sharing 3 real funny stories from our overseas hiring journey — pure, lighthearted workplace fun with zero judgment 😜

1. The “Pet Manager” Candidate 🐶
We once interviewed a candidate for a senior remote operation role. His resume was perfect, his interview answers were professional, and we were almost ready to send the offer.
Until he casually mentioned his biggest daily “management challenge”: managing his 3 naughty dogs while working from home.
He said he had to schedule meetings around his pets’ walk time, and even trained his dogs to stay quiet during conference calls. We were worried it would affect work at first — but turns out, his super strict self-management and time-planning skills were exactly why he’s such a great fit for remote work!
Lesson learned: Good time managers can manage anything, even energetic pets 🐾

2. The Unexpected “Cultural Gap” Answer 🗣️
Cultural differences always bring funny interview moments!
We asked a Southeast Asian candidate the classic interview question:“What’s your biggest weakness?”
Instead of the standard polite answer, he replied very seriously:“I’m too used to smiling at everyone, even when I’m stressed. My teammates never know when I’m tired.”
It was such a sincere and lovely answer! It totally broke the stiff interview atmosphere. We ended up hiring him immediately — positive and gentle personalities are always precious in any team ✨

3. The Resume “Easter Egg” 🎮
We received a designer’s resume that looked totally ordinary at first glance. But after scrolling to the last line, we found a super cute Easter egg:
“Bonus skill: Can draw custom team avatar stickers for free.”
Our team instantly fell in love! Creative people always add tiny surprises to their work and life. He joined the team later, and now our group chat is full of his exclusive stickers. He’s not just a great designer, but also our team’s “happiness supplier” 😆
