Our Parent Portal and Chipmunk App provider, BusPlanner, has reported that access to these transportation communication tools has been restored following an outage since earlier in the day.

When logging into Chipmunk, your username and password is the same as the username and password for your Parent Portal account. If you ever need to change a password, you must do so through your Parent Portal account.

Until the first day of school (tomorrow), busing information for your child can only be found in your Parent Portal account at www.ststb.ca. This information will only be visible in the transportation tab under My Students in the Chipmunk app once it's effective date has been reached.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

🚌 Do You Know Your Bus Number? Your Child Should Too!

As students head back to school, one of the simplest ways to help ensure a safe and smooth ride is to make sure both you and your child know their assigned bus number and they only board that bus.

Your child's assigned bus number can be found in the Parent Portal and is clearly displayed on the school bus in large black numbers on a white background :
βœ… Beside the entry door
βœ… On the back of the bus

Why is this so important?

Every year, drivers help hundreds of students get safely to and from school. If a student accidentally boards the wrong bus, they may end up at a different school or on the wrong route. This can lead to delays in identifying where the student is, cause unnecessary stress for drivers, schools and transportation staff, and most importantly, create significant anxiety for families.

πŸŽ’ Before the first day of school, take a moment to:
β€’ Review your child's assigned bus number in the Parent Portal
β€’ Show your child where to find the number on the bus
β€’ Remind them to board only their assigned bus
β€’ Ensure Kindergarten students have their KID Tag, provided by their school on the first day, attached to the outside of their backpack

A quick conversation can help prevent confusion and ensure your child's journey to school starts and ends safely.

🚌 School starts Thursday, September 3, 2026!

As we kick off a new school year, we want to share an important reminder.

Thanks to the tremendous efforts of our school bus operators, we're expecting all routes to be serviced as the new school year begins.

However, it's important to recognize that the school bus driver shortage continues to affect communities across Ontario and North America, and our region is no exception.

While every effort will be made to keep buses running as scheduled, driver illnesses and other unexpected circumstances can occur. In some cases, a route may need to be cancelled with little notice if a replacement driver is unavailable.

βœ… We encourage families to:
β€’ Use the Chipmunk school bus tracking app for delay and cancellation alerts (more info: https://ststb.ca/en/delays-and-cancellations )
β€’ Have a backup transportation plan ready, just in case.

Being prepared for unexpected transportation disruptions can help reduce stress and keep your morning running smoothly.

Thank you for your continued patience, flexibility, and support. Here's to a safe and successful school year! πŸŽ’πŸšβœ¨

Parents told us safety matters. And we agree.

One of the biggest barriers to walking to school is concern about safety. The Wayfinders program helps address that by training older elementary school student leaders who model safe walking practices and increase the visibility of students travelling to school.

More students walking together means:
🚸 Increased visibility for drivers
πŸ‘€ More "eyes on the street"
🏫 Safer, calmer school zones
😊 More confidence for students and families

If you would like to see Wayfinders at your elementary school, send a quick email to your principal and ask them to explore the program.

One parent voice can make a difference.

πŸ”Ή Students can create their own account using their school board email address.
πŸ”Ή Check the Parent Portal if you last looked before last Thursday. Routes were finalized on August 27, and transportation details may have changed.

🚍 Heads Up, Thunder Bay!
On Tuesday, September 1st, school buses will be rolling through Thunder Bay and surrounding communities morning and afternoon β€” but don’t worry, school hasn’t started yet!

🚌 Our dedicated school bus drivers will be running their full routes ahead of the first day of school on Thursday, September 3rd. Why?
To ensure a smooth, safe, and stress-free start for everyone β€” especially our students and their families.

βœ… Drivers will be:
Practicing their routes
Checking timing and stops
Reporting any concerns back to STSTB

Let’s give them a wave πŸ‘‹ and a little extra space on the roads as they gear up for a great school year!

🚍 Take a deep breath... school doesn't start until Thursday!

Over the next few days, school bus drivers will be out doing trial runs on their routes to get ready for the first day of school. That means the Chipmunk app may send notifications that make it look like your child's bus is on the way.

Before anyone starts sprinting down the driveway with a backpack half-zipped and a piece of toast in hand... don't panic! πŸ˜… These are just practice runs.

While our official Route Trial Day is Tuesday, September 1, some routes may also be tested on Monday and Wednesday.

πŸ“Œ Important: Busing information for the first day of school is available only through the Parent Portal at ststb.ca.
