Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay STSTB was formed in 2008 and works to reduce the overall cost of transportation while maintaining a safe, secure, efficient and dependable level of service.

Develop, implement, administer & provide safe, efficient, cost effective transportation system for students of Lakehead DSB, Thunder Bay Catholic DSB & CSDC des Aurores boréales that meet the needs of eligible students, parents/guardians, schools & staff Student Transportation Services of Thunder Bay (STSTB) is a consortium for student transportation for the Thunder Bay Catholic District School Board, Lakehead Public Schools and Conseil scolaire de district catholique Aurores boreales. All school buses operate routes designed and supervised by STSTB. The operation of all school buses is contracted to private companies for which STSTB is the contract administrator on behalf of the member boards.

School Bus Safety Week is almost here! Join us October 19-23, 2026 as we share daily school bus safety tips and reminders to help keep students safe on their journey to and from school.

And don't forget, Wednesday, October 21 is School Bus Driver Appreciation Day! Take a moment to thank the dedicated drivers who safely transport thousands of students every day.

Follow along all week and help us spread the message: Safe journeys start with all of us.

Crossing safely starts before you step onto the road.

✅ Wait for the school bus to arrive and come to a complete stop
✅ Wait for the driver to activate the stop arm and crossing gate
✅ Make eye contact with the driver
✅ Wait for the driver's signal to cross
✅ Look left, right, and left again before crossing
✅ Always cross in front of the bus, never behind it

Even when the stop arm is extended, it's important to stay alert and watch for traffic. Before crossing, always take a final look in both directions to make sure all vehicles have stopped.

💛 A few extra seconds can prevent a tragedy. By following these simple steps, students and drivers work together to make every trip to and from school safer.

Running to or from the school bus may seem like a way to save a few seconds, but it can put students in danger. Slow down, stay alert, and always walk safely to and from your bus stop.

✅ Walk, don’t run
✅ Stay out of the bus’s blind spots
✅ Look both ways before crossing the street
✅ Follow the driver’s instructions

Remember: Missing the bus is better than risking an injury. A few extra seconds can make all the difference when it comes to getting to and from school safely.
