History lesson! Our story starts in 1947 when Okanagan Air Services, founded by Carl Agar, Barney Bent, and Alf Stringer, purchased a Bell 47-B3 marking the beginning of commercial helicopter operations in Canada. In 1949, the company collaborated with Alcan engineers to demonstrate the potential of helicopters for conducting aerial surveys as part of the future Kemano/Kitimat hydroelectric project. This project aimed to provide power for a proposed aluminum smelter plant, and the collaboration revolutionized the still-new civilian helicopter industry. Canadian Helicopters continues to operate in the Kemano/Kitimat area, providing support for all types of utility operations to this day.
