Continuing my series on the Greek Islands… this time, we're heading to Crete. 🇬🇷☀️
There are Greek Islands, and then there's Crete. As Greece's largest island, Crete offers a little bit of everything: history, incredible food, charming towns, and beaches that rival anywhere in the world. Whether you're planning a romantic escape, a family holiday, or adding a few nights after a cruise, it's a destination that deserves far more than a quick stop.
My tip? Stay on the Chania side of the island. It's full of atmosphere, close to Crete's most famous beaches, and has that dreamy Greek island feeling so many travellers are looking for.
For Crete, I actually think it's one of the few Greek islands that deserves more than the standard 3-night stop.
Here's how I'd break it down:
3 nights: The absolute minimum if you're tagging it onto a cruise. You can enjoy Chania, wander the harbour, and squeeze in one beach day.
5 nights: The sweet spot. This gives you time to explore Chania, visit Elafonissi, Balos, and Falassarna, enjoy relaxed dinners, and not feel rushed.
7 nights: Ideal if Crete is your main destination. You can add a day trip to Rethymno, visit the Samaria Gorge (if you enjoy hiking), explore mountain villages, and truly settle into the slower Cretan pace.
Have you been to Crete, or is it on your bucket list? 🇬🇷💙
