Big thanks to naturalist Stella and captain Ethan of White Rock Sea Tours for retrieving this Mylar balloon from the Salish Sea. Mylar balloons don't biodegrade, they just break into smaller pieces over hundreds of years. Even balloons marketed as "biodegradable latex" stay intact for months, or even years, posing a risk to wildlife. Simply put, there's no such thing as a safe balloon! Please choose other ways to celebrate. 🚫🎈

When a 40-ton humpback whale launches out of the water, you feel it in your chest. 🐋💦 The splash echoes across the bay, and everyone on board just stares in awe — some cheering, some too stunned to speak.

That’s called spyhopping — when an orca rises vertically, poking its head above the surface to take a look around.

Watching a spyhop in person is one of those moments that stops you in your tracks. The ocean goes quiet, the orca rises higher and higher, and for a few magical seconds you’re eye to eye with one of the ocean’s most intelligent predators.

These are the moments that make whale watching unforgettable. 🚤🌊
