Okay, this is an important one…

Before we actually start talking ships, cabins, or itineraries, I want you to think about how you actually like to travel.

Does the idea of waking up somewhere new almost every day make you think, “YES! Give me all of it”?

Or are you thinking, “Can I please just stay somewhere for five days and unpack my suitcase properly?” 🤗

Neither is wrong. I just need to know which one you are.

Because this British Isles cruise is fantastic for the first person. For the second person, I would probably be looking at a completely different kind of trip.

So tell me in the comments: New country every day or settle in and stay awhile?

Okay, let's actually talk about why I think this cruise is worth a closer look...

You're getting a recently refurbished ship, an itinerary that includes the Orkney Islands, and 9 destinations without having to pack up your suitcase every night. That is a pretty compelling combination.

And I'll admit, the Orkney stop is one of the things that really caught my attention. It's not somewhere most people casually work into a trip to the British Isles and that is exactly what makes it interesting to me.

The other thing I am watching closely is availability. For a 2028 sailing, I am seeing fewer cabin categories available than I would normally expect this far out.

Does this mean you need to panic book? Absolutely not.

But if you have been thinking about doing the British Isles and this itinerary checks a lot of your boxes, I wouldn't leave it sitting on the "maybe someday" list for too long.

Not every upgrade is actually an upgrade.

Sometimes it makes perfect sense. Sometimes I would rather see you spend your money somewhere else.

For this British Isles sailing, I would be looking closely at what you're actually going to use onboard before automatically adding a drinks and Wi-Fi package. You're going to be off exploring a lot.

Where would I spend my money? Give yourself some breathing room around the cruise. If you're flying from North America, a hotel night before embarkation is one of those expenses that can save you from a very expensive headache. Or adding a few hotel nights after the cruise has ended because it's not everyday you're in this part of the world? A really nice way to wind down an incredible holiday and see a few more things before your journey home.

And excursions? Please don't choose them just because the title sounds good. A good look at logistics is important. A day trip from Paris to Le Havre, for example, is a very different experience when you realize how much of the day involves getting there and back.

This is the stuff I look at before I tell a client "Yep, book that."

Because my job isn't to add every possible extra to your booking. It's to help you spend your travel dollars where they actually make sense.

There is a reason cruise brochures don't spend a lot of time talking about the parts that might make you pause before booking. 😉

And honestly, I think you should know them.

A British Isles cruise can be a fantastic way to see a lot of this part of the world without constantly packing, unpacking, and changing hotels. But it's not the same experience as spending a week exploring Ireland or Scotland on land.

You'll get a taste of several incredible places. Some ports will be more convenient than others. And no, you're not going to "see all of Ireland" because you spent 8 hours in Cork.

That doesn't make the cruise a bad choice. It just means you know what you're actually booking.

And that's kind of my whole thing. I am all about telling you the good, the bad, and the "just so you know" before you put down your deposit.

There’s something pretty appealing about unpacking your suitcase once and then letting the ship do the driving.

If you’ve ever looked at an itinerary through England, Ireland and Scotland and thought, “That sounds amazing, but I do NOT want to drive it myself,” this is worth a look.

And if the thought of an escorted tour where you’re packing up and changing hotels every night makes you tired just reading the itinerary, even better.

This British Isles cruise gives you castles, coastlines, historic cities and some seriously good ports to explore, without having to move your suitcase every night. Southampton, Cornwall, Cork, Liverpool, Belfast, Glasgow, the Orkney Islands, Invergordon, Edinburgh and even a day in France.

Is it going to be sunny every day? Probably not. But honestly, if you’re into the kind of scenery that looks spectacular under a little Scottish cloud cover, that’s hardly a dealbreaker. 😉

Want to know what a day on an escorted tour actually feels like?

Let me take you back to Northern Ireland.

We started the morning with our bags packed and outside our doors by 8 a.m.

One of the wonderful perks of a CIE Tours escorted tour is that your luggage porterage is taken care of. Our bags were picked up from our rooms, loaded onto the motorcoach and, when we arrived at our next hotel, delivered right to our rooms.

No dragging suitcases through train stations.
No figuring out how to get everything from Point A to Point B.

Just put your bags outside your door and go enjoy your day. 🙌

From there, we headed out on a city tour of Belfast with a wonderful local guide who gave us an incredible window into the city's history and life over the decades.

We saw historical murals, landmarks, statues and buildings while hearing the stories behind them. Having a local guide to put everything we were seeing into context made the experience so much richer.

And then came Titanic Belfast.

This was one of those "pinch-me" moments for me. Standing there and experiencing the story of the Titanic in the very place where it was designed and built was something I will never forget.

But here's the part people don't always think about when they're considering an escorted tour:

Nobody had to figure out the logistics.

No trains to book.
No parking to worry about.
No Google Maps required.
No one asking, *"Wait... did we book that?"

We just got on the coach and went.

And that meant we could spend our energy on what we were actually there to do:

Experience the destination.

That's one of the reasons escorted touring can be such a fantastic option, especially if you want to see a lot without having to personally manage every single moving part.

Sometimes the best part of a vacation is not having to be the person in charge of the vacation. 😉

If you're planning your first trip to the UK, one of the questions you're probably asking is:

England, Scotland...or can I do both?

The answer is: Yes. But it depends.

Not in which one is "better." They're completely different experiences.

If you're craving London, theatre, history, royal sites, charming villages, and English countryside, England may be calling your name.

If you're picturing castles, dramatic landscapes, the Highlands, whisky, and a more rugged adventure, Scotland might be your girl.

And yes, you can absolutely combine the two.

What I don't recommend is trying to see everything in one trip.

Because there is a big difference between seeing a place and actually experiencing it.

My job is to help you figure out what makes sense for the amount of time you actually have, not create an itinerary that looks impressive on paper but leaves you exhausted.

One of the biggest mistakes I see when people plan a UK trip themselves?

Trying to fit too much into one itinerary.

I recently had a conversation with someone who wanted to visit both Ireland and Scotland.

And in our beginning conversations, the trip sounded totally doable.

Until I started looking at the full list of everything they wanted to see and do.

Castle stays.
Outlander filming locations.
The Giant's Causeway.
Titanic Belfast.
The Scottish Highlands.
The Isle of Skye.

And that's just a small part of the list.

Once I started mapping it all out, looking at where everything was located, how they would get from one place to the next, and how much time each experience would actually require, two things became very clear:

The trip was going to take considerably more time than they had originally imagined.

And...

It was going to cost considerably more than they had budgeted.

And this is where I think travel planning gets really interesting.

Because yes, I could have tried to squeeze everything into the trip.

But I don't want my clients to spend a significant amount of money flying across the Atlantic just to spend their entire vacation checking out of hotels, hauling luggage around and rushing from one place to the next so they can say they "saw" everything.

I want you to experience it.

There's a big difference between seeing the Isle of Skye for two hours because you have somewhere else to be...

and actually having the time to slow down, take it in and enjoy being there.

Part of my job as a travel advisor is helping clients take that giant list of "I want to see ALL of this!" and turn it into a trip that actually makes sense for their time, budget and travel style.

Sometimes that means finding a way to make the dream work.
Sometimes it means prioritizing.
And sometimes it means saying, "I know you want to do all of this, but I don't think you're going to enjoy the trip if we try."

And honestly?

I'd rather tell you that before you spend the money.
