Victoria International Airport (Airport Code: YYJ) is the 10th busiest airport in Canada with over 1.5 million passengers per year. Victoria is well served with more than 120 daily flights throughout North America. The Victoria Airport Authority is a not-for-profit authority that manages the safe and secure operations of the Victoria International Airport on behalf of the surrounding communities.

The drive to or from the airport takes you past the resort town of Sidney-by-the-Sea, the countryside of North Saanich, and Districts of Central Saanich and Saanich. The terminal itself is small enough to be ultra convenient yet, very modern as extensive improvements and upgrades have been completed over the last five years. Information on flight times, airlines, food service, shopping, currency exchange, parking, ground transportation, and other passenger services is all available on the website.

This week, we were thrilled to welcome Bruce, Diana and Oswald, a group of Woofability service dog puppies, as they practiced navigating the airport environment.

We’re proud to support programs like Woofability that help create greater independence and accessibility in our communities.

To kick off National AccessAbility Week, airports across Canada are passing the Hidden Disabilities Sunflower lanyard from coast to coast, highlighting our shared commitment to making air travel more accessible and inclusive.

The Hidden Disabilities Sunflower is a globally recognized symbol that allows people with non-visible disabilities to indicate they may need extra time, support, or understanding while travelling.

At YYJ, airport staff are trained to recognize the Sunflower and provide respectful support throughout the travel journey. Travellers can request a free Sunflower lanyard before their trip or pick one up in the terminal.

They say to make hay while the sun shines…🚜☀️

Once a year, a local farm fertilizes and harvests portions of YYJ’s fields. The crop is collected as silage, and the work is completed within a week with support from our Airfield Maintenance team.

A little farming behind the scenes helps keep our airport lands well maintained - and puts those grassy areas to good use!
