Since 1994 SCCL has been dedicated to providing all natural bovine colostrum products to our customers worldwide. Our success is driven by years of research by veterinary immunologists from the Western College of Veterinary Medicine who continue to lead a team of scientists creating the best colostrum products in the world. SCCL is a privately held biosciences company specializing in developing and producing innovative colostrum products from healthy dairy cows approved to produce milk for human consumption. Scientists at SCCL have developed methods of accurately measuring some of the key immunological, metabolic, and nutritional components found in colostrum. Using these assays, in combination with a proprietary processing method that preserves the levels of key components, SCCL produces spray dried, refined colostrum products that contain specified levels of important ingredients. We are proud to introduce our new instant mix technology in our colostrum products; offering easy and complete mixing in seconds. Our colostrum is tested for potency, purity, safety and efficacy to guarantee an end product that meets the highest quality control specifications for global distribution. Our facility and products are licensed by stringent regulatory agencies including the CFIA, USDA, SAGARPA, NASC, and others. Our facility is GMP certified by Health Canada and produces NHPD licensed products. We offer our products in many countries including Canada, the United States, Mexico, Chile, Uruguay, Colombia, Japan, Korea, Thailand, Israel and the United Kingdom. Colostrum's job isn't done after Day 1. 💪

While calves can only absorb antibodies for immunity in the first few hours after birth, they can still benefit from its protein, fat, and bio-actives well beyond that — think fewer respiratory issues, less loose manure, higher average daily gain, and more active calves.

We know you've probably seen this reminder before, but some things are worth repeating. 👇

Getting colostrum into a newborn within the first 2 hours is one of the most important steps for a strong start 🐮

But timing alone isn't enough. Quality matters too. For best results, colostrum should meet at least a 25% Brix threshold to ensure calves receive the nutrients and support they need.

PS. Feeding colostrum for absorption of antibodies is most critical in the first few hours after birth, but colostrum can continue being fed Post Day 1! When fed after day 1, IgG doesn't play a big role anymore, but its other bioactive compounds can support gut development and more...

Somewhere along the way, we stopped feeding transition milk. Dr. Lucia Pisoni thinks it’s because we didn’t understand what we were giving up.
 
The IgG, the fat, the growth factors, the antimicrobial peptides are all still there after day one. They may not cross into the blood once the gut matures, but they keep doing important work locally in the intestine.

Testing colostrum and enriching when needed makes all the difference 🐮

In work with the University of Guelph, 30 g/L colostrum was enriched with colostrum replacer powder to 60 g/L. That doubled the IgG in the first meal — 114 g to 228 g — and lifted serum IgG at 24 hours from 11.8 to 19.9 mg/mL.

Nearly one in five calves on the unenriched colostrum failed passive transfer. None of the enriched calves did. When the refractometer says the colostrum is falling short, don't overthink it, enrich!
