At Premier Moving Services we know that relocating to a new home can be a whirlwind of excitement and stress. Whether you're moving down the street or across the country, a little bit of preparation can go a long way. Here are five ways to ensure your move is as smooth as possible:
1. Declutter and Sort: Out with the Old
Before packing, take time to go through each room and decide what you really want to take with you. This is the perfect opportunity to get rid of items that no longer serve you.
* Clothing: Selling or donating some of your clothing can save you a few boxes and some space in your new closet.
* Miscellaneous Items: Toss out expired products, old magazines, and broken items.
2. Gather Supplies: Be Packing-Ready
Once you've decluttered, compile the necessary materials to pack.
* Boxes: Gather various sizes and consider specialized boxes like wardrobe boxes.
* Packing Tape: Invest in quality tape to secure your items.
* Bubble Wrap & Packing Paper: Protect your fragile items.
* Markers & Labels: Clearly label boxes by room and content for easy unpacking.
*Linens make excellent box toppers!
3. Strategically Pack: Room by Room
* Essentials Box: Pack a box with items you'll need immediately upon arrival—think toiletries, a change of clothes, and important documents.
* Fragile Items: Use ample padding and mark the boxes as 'Fragile'.
* Room Labeling: Label boxes according to the room they belong in, making the unpacking process more straightforward.
4. Notify Important Parties: Update Your Address
* Postal Service: Set up mail forwarding through your local post office.
* Utilities: Transfer or set up new utilities, including water, electricity, gas, and internet.
* Subscriptions & Services: Update your address for magazine subscriptions, online shopping accounts, and any delivery services.
5. Plan your moving day:
Whether you're hiring professionals or enlisting friends' help, ensure moving day goes off without a hitch.
***Book the elevator*** If you're moving in or out of a condo or apartment, and require the elevator, booking the elevator will save you time and money.
* Checklist: Make a moving day checklist of tasks to be done and items not to be forgotten.
* Food & Drinks: Stock up on easy snacks and hydration. If friends are helping, consider ordering pizza or another simple meal as a thank you.
* Child & Pet Care: Consider arranging care for young children and pets to keep them safe and reduce stress on moving day. That being said, we know that pet care can be hard to find! If your pets will be home on moving day, you can make them a safe space with their necessities and comfort objects in a small room that can be cleared out ahead of time. Be sure to let your movers know which room is off limits and maybe even mark the door with painter's tape.
Wishing you a smooth move, safe travels and all the best settling into your new home!
