A repeat visit to the Town of Clinton in Central Huron, Ontario.
We started at Ball's Bridge, known as The Bridge That Love Built. This historic bridge is a peaceful spot of Central Huron and more than just a photo stop. Grab a seat in one of the bright red chairs, peek through the binoculars (provided) to observe the birds and fish below, and take in the stunning views of the Maitland River. There's even a Wind Phone, offering visitors a unique space to reflect and connect with loved ones who have passed on, plus a guest book where travellers can leave their mark (we did).
From there, we headed to Sloman Park to check out the CRN School on Wheels and snap a photo with another of Central Huron's iconic Big Red Chairs.
Of course, no visit to Clinton is complete without a stop at Bartliff's Bakery & Restaurant for some fresh donuts & pastries. This local favourite is worth every calorie.
Historic bridges, riverside views, giant red chairs, and baked goods? Clinton might just be one of Ontario's most underrated little day trip stops.

While we were exploring Huron County, we visited the Wawanosh Nature Center for a short hike and a chance to take in the autumn colours.
The trails were a very quiet peaceful walk along the Maitland River through the woods, and the leaves were at near peak.
Perfect way to spend a crisp autumn afternoon.

If you’re the kind of daytripper who loves pulling over for a good old‑fashioned bake shop find, here are two small‑town, home‑based roadside gems that absolutely deserve a spot on your next wander.

We hit both this weekend, and honestly… it made for the easiest (and sweetest) little detour. They’re only about 15 minutes apart, so you can turn it into a mini dessert saturday roadtrip without even trying.
📍 Kerry's Sweet Treats — 169 Clyde St, Bluevale
Kerry’s got that magic touch for squares, brownies, pies, and homemade jams and jellies. She plays with flavour in a way that makes the drive worth it — fun combos, bold twists, and everything looks amazing.
Our haul: a cranberry dark‑chocolate pie, spicy pear jam squares, and a jar of spicy cranberry tequila jelly.
📍The Tart Shack — 38557 Belgrave Rd, Belgrave

Open Saturday mornings (first‑come‑first‑serve or preorder online), this spot is all about butter tarts, fruit tarts, cinnamon buns, and small‑batch baking done properly. Real ingredients, fruit from their own farm, and everything made from scratch. It’s the kind of place where you can taste the care in every bite.

We've been here before, and absolutely love everything we've tried.
These ladies know exactly what they’re doing — two tiny home bake shops turning out big‑time flavours.
If you’re out exploring, give them a visit and pick up some treats.

A day trip through the town of Chesley, Ontario without a stop to visit Big Bruce the giant 15 foot tall Hereford Bull?

That's just not going to happen with Roguetrippers | Travel blogger.

Big Bruce the Bull was voted Ontario's Greatest Roadside Attraction in 2021.
And it is one of our favourites.
It's not weird or quirky, just a giant representation of the bull., but still a great spot for a photo.... And we do have plenty.
We were even recently featured on Bruce County's tourism site - Explore the Bruce ...
This might be a shameless push for another.

The Wooly Mammoth of Tara, Ontario in Bruce County.

We learned of this statue a couple of years ago, but Tara just never made it onto our roadtrip plans, until this weekend. 
🦣
In 1979 an area farmer found an item that turned out to be a tooth from a 12,000-year-old wooly Mammoth.
🦣
This sculpture was created by chainsaw artist Bobbi Switzer, and sits in the park at the corner of Whites Ave & Yonge St N next to the Tara Rotary Pool.

The tooth is in the permanent collection at the Bruce County Museum and Cultural Centre in the nearby town of Southampton, Ontario.

Sometimes the best day trips are the ones you don’t plan at all — the kind where you stumble into something unexpectedly lovely.

Just outside Orillia, near Bass Lake Provincial Park, we wandered into the George Langman Sanctuary, and it ended up being the sweetest surprise.
Swans, ducks, geese, pheasants, peafowl — even a few rabbits darting around like they owned the place.
🐇
There’s a relaxed little 2‑ish km trail looping around the marsh, complete with a boardwalk that pulls you right into the quiet of the wetlands. Some sections of the Fen are 'bottomless', and you can see how far you can push the pole in.

And the best part? It’s totally free to visit. You can grab corn or snacks from the dispensers and feed the animals… the swans absolutely make their enthusiasm known.

One of those simple, peaceful spots that makes you glad you took the detour.

One of Ontario's most iconic roadside attractions....
The Big Apple

As you drive on the section of the 401 highway between Toronto & Kingston... You can't miss the Big Apple smiling at you.
🍏
When you pull over... And visit...
It is a bakery making a variety of apple goods including pies, bread (my favourite), tarts, donuts, fritters and so much more.
There is a gift shop, cafe/ restaurant, candy store, c***r, a petting zoo, mini putt, and photo opps.

And of course ...the Big Apple. Which you can climb to the top from the inside, and enjoy the views.

A very popular roadside Attraction, it is one of the Maritimes most photographed tourist attractions.
