Grey County, Ontario is a true paradise for nature lovers.
🥾
With countless scenic trails to explore - including a huge section of the Bruce Trail, it's the perfect destination for anyone who enjoys a hiking adventure.
🥾
Whenever we're in the area, we always make time to visit at least one of Grey County's beautiful waterfalls.
This trip, we revisited Jones Falls and took a short hike down to the base of the falls—a perspective we hadn't experienced before.

While we were visiting the charming town of Meaford, we took some time to explore the downtown core. One of the first things that caught our attention was the town’s iconic giant apple, which serves as both a popular roadside attraction and a tourism information kiosk.
🍎
We also spotted a scarecrow statue, a nod to Meaford’s famous Scarecrow Invasion, an annual autumn event that transforms the community with hundreds of creative displays. Along the way, we admired several of the town’s unique and historic buildings.
🍎
Our main destination, however, was the Meaford Museum, located beside the marina and beach. Although modest in size, the museum offers a fascinating look into the area’s rich history. Exhibits highlight local stories, artifacts, and the legacy of “Beautiful Joe,” Meaford’s beloved canine hero whose story gained international recognition.

We visited a truly beautiful and meaningful park in Meaford, Ontario — Beautiful Joe Park.
🐶
This 8.5‑acre green space with a river running through it, is named after Beautiful Joe, a dog who suffered terrible abuse at the hands of his original owner. His ears and tail were cruelly cut off, but Joe was rescued and nursed back to health by a family in Meaford in the 1890s.
🐾
Joe’s story became the bestselling book “Beautiful Joe” — and later a sequel “Beautiful Joe’s Paradise” — written by Margaret Marshall Saunders. The books helped spark early animal‑protection movements and opened up a broader conversation about humane treatment of animals.
🐕
Joe is buried in the park, marked with a cairn and historic plaque honouring his life and legacy.
🐾
The entire park celebrates the human–animal bond, with monuments recognizing the impact animals have on our lives, including:
- Police K9 memorial honouring the dedication and courage of service dogs
- Pet and working‑animal plaques from around the world
- 9/11 search‑and‑rescue memorial honouring the men, women, and their canine partners
- Assistance animals memorial
- A plaque for Margaret Marshall Saunders who wrote Joe's Story.
🐾
If you’re road‑tripping around Meaford, this park is the kind of stop that fits perfectly into a slow, small‑town daytrip — meaningful, peaceful, and full of heart.

Anniversary dinner at Miijidaa Café + Bistro in Downtown Guelph has become a bit of a tradition for us.
🩷🦩
10 years married and 6 anniversary dinners have been spent here.
The restaurant uses fresh locally sourced ingredients, celebrating Canadian culture, and culinary traditions from First Nations, and early settlers.
This makes it a rather unique dining experience perfect for casual meals, or important celebrations, alike.

10 years ago today, we said “I do” at the Bird Kingdom in Niagara Falls.
🦩
so of course we had to go back to where it all began.
🦩
It’s still our favourite spot in Niagara, and walking into that free‑flying aviary felt like stepping right back into the magic of our wedding day.
We returned to the Ancient Javanese Tea House, where we were married, and had our bird encounter in the exact same place. Talk about full circle.
The whole visit was perfect — catching up with our old feathered friends - including the parrots who were part of our big day, feeding the lorikeets, wandering through the Old Museum, and soaking in all the colour and beauty of the aviary.
🦩
We received many comments and questions about our 'themed' shirts, which led to a lot of fun conversation about our wedding day.
🦜
A decade later, Bird Kingdom still feels like “us.”
🦩
Here’s to 10 years, and to celebrating in the place where it all started. (At least this chapter)

Ontario’s small towns are packed with the kind of unexpected treasures that turn a simple drive into a full‑on adventure — and Central Huron is one of those places that quietly over delivers.
📡
Start in Clinton, where the town proudly celebrates its role as Canada’s home of Radar. Right in the centre of town you’ll find a real radar antenna donated by the Canadian Forces.
🪑
Take a self guided tour to find the 9 giant red chairs scattered across Central Huron. They’re part scavenger hunt, part selfie mission, and totally worth the detour.
🎨
Keep your phone handy — Clinton’s interactive murals come alive through the use of an app, turning a simple walk into a mini augmented‑reality tour.
🍩
When the cravings hit, Bartliff's Bakery is the right move. Fresh bread, sweet treats, and donuts that make you rethink what a donut can be.
🍺
Wrap it all up at Cowbell Brewery with a patio meal and a cold beer that feels like summer in a glass.

If you love discovering Ontario Small Towns, quirky attractions, and places with real personality, Central Huron needs to be on your list.

Gutted doesn’t even begin to cover it.
Dolly Parton has been part of our relationship from the very start — the soundtrack, the spirit, the joy.
🦋
Travellin Thru:
One of our first trips together was to Pigeon Forge and her Tennessee Mountain Home, wandering around Dollywood and belting tunes like Joshua and Jolene as we rode the rides.
🦋
We’ve gone back a few times since, chasing rainbows and soaking up little pieces of her magic glitter.
🦋
From Dollywood to Nashville to her star in Hollywood, we’ve followed her trail of joyful noise. Nashville, the Country Music Hall of Fame, even her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
🦋
We even planned an entire roadtrip to Utah based around attending one of her concerts... Which we then saw again in Toronto.

Goderich has become one of our go‑to day trip destinations over the years. We visit a few times a year now, and it still feels underrated for an Ontario road trip destination.

We realized we haven’t given Goderich much love this summer… so a “let’s not do much” day somehow turned into a two‑hour road trip because we were craving fish and chips.
🐟
The Old Saltie (Goderich Harbour Restaurant - aka The Old Saltie) was on the brain, so lunch had to be haddock and fresh‑cut fries — seasoned just how you like with all their salt and vinegar options. And honestly, eating it while looking out at the lake, the ships, and the Sifto Salt mine is the perfect Goderich vibe.
🚢
After that, we wandered over to the Menesetung Bridge and walked some of the G2G Rail Trail to work off some of our lunch. We did just enough walking to reach Tiger Dunlop’s Tomb on the hill. The full trail is 130 + km from Goderich to Guelph... I definitely wasn’t about to walk back to Guelph, so our little 6 km loop was plenty for me.
🚶🏻‍♂️
We Wrapped things up with a quick stop to check out the concrete sculptures at Laithwaite Apple Park on the outskirts of town— one of those quirky roadside attractions we love to stop for.
Goderich Tourism is a fantastic destination for a day trip if your close enough, or a great Ontario Roadtrip Destination.
It has everything you need in one small community.

Yesterday we swung by Stop 107 The Market Stand to see what all the Perth County buzz was about, and honestly… it’s easy to see why people are talking.

While there, we met Kelly, the owner. She is an absolute delight, and the shop itself has that cozy, small‑town charm that pulls you right in.

This little market stand is turning out small batches of focaccia, cinnamon buns, brownies, butter tarts — all the good stuff — and everything disappears almost as fast as it hits the counter.
Luckily my sister got there earlier in the day, and saved us a box of their plain butter tarts knowing we'd be there in a bit.
Four to a box, and every one of them is a danger to your self‑control. Crisp, hand‑pressed pastry, smooth buttery filling… the kind of tart you could accidentally eat all four without blinking an eye.
Stop 107 Market Stand is another sweet stop on the growing list of Perth County Tourism "Discover more Flavours" stops that make Perth County the perfect Ontario roadtrip destination.
