Meliá Cozumel Officially Begins Its Transformation into Zel Cozumel
Following the announcement earlier this year, we are pleased to inform you that, as of August 4, 2026, Meliá Cozumel has officially closed its doors to begin its transformation into Zel Cozumel, with the resort scheduled to welcome guests in November 2026.
This milestone marks the beginning of a comprehensive renovation that will reimagine one of Cozumel's most established beachfront resorts into a new all-inclusive lifestyle destination. Created by Meliá Hotels International in partnership with tennis legend Rafael Nadal, Zel brings the Mediterranean way of life to Cozumel, inspired by the island's active, outdoor spirit.
The renovation will focus on redesigning guestrooms while refreshing key public areas to introduce Zel's distinctive lifestyle concept, creating new social spaces, enhanced wellness facilities and a more seamless guest journey through features such as digital check-in.
Upon reopening, Zel Cozumel will feature 209 renovated rooms and suites, including garden, ocean view and oceanfront accommodations, redesigned with warm natural materials, open spaces and a relaxed residential feel inspired by Mediterranean homes.
A key element of the transformation is the reimagining of the traditional hotel lobby into a welcoming social space featuring a Concept Store and a seamless arrival journey, reflecting Zel's philosophy of making guests feel at home from the very first moment.
The all-inclusive culinary experience will feature Caramba, an all-day international buffet celebrating global flavors; Volcán, a contemporary grill centred around fire-led cooking and meats; and Parda Beach, the resort's signature beach club. The offering is complemented by vibrant bars, a Coffee Corner and an Ice Cream Corner, creating a diverse culinary experience throughout the day.
Beyond gastronomy, Zel Cozumel will introduce a lifestyle experience centered on wellbeing, movement and social connection through The Studios, a dedicated fitness and wellness hub, the signature AUA Spa, curated daily activities and evening entertainment, as well as new pet- friendly accommodations. Guests will continue to enjoy many of the resort's favorite amenities, including Kidsdom kids club, Game Room, tennis, pickleball and basketball courts, 18-hole miniature golf, non-motorized water sports and the Care Center, operated in partnership with Saint Luke's Hospital.
Located on Santa Pilar Beach, Cozumel's longest stretch of shoreline, Zel Cozumel is perfectly positioned for guests to experience the island's renowned outdoor lifestyle and internationally recognized sporting events.
