Boat winterizing usually starts before the last trip of the season.

September is when the little things are still fresh in your mind, which makes it the best time to start a simple fall list.

Think back over the last few trips:

☑ Did the engine start a little harder than usual?
☑ Any warning messages or charging issues?
☑ Did you notice vibration, steering changes or prop damage?
☑ Is your regular service coming due?
☑ Will you need a haul-out before winter?

You do not need to put the boat away today. Just start keeping track of what you want looked at when the season does wind down.

A note on your phone called “boat list” is often all you need.

If you are unsure what should be handled this fall and what can wait until spring, call Inlet Marine at 📞 (604) 936-4602. Tell us what you have noticed, and we can help you sort through it.

Fall haul-out is one of those jobs that quietly gets harder the longer you leave it.

Call now, while the boat's still in the water, and you get two things that matter:

☑ A date that actually fits your schedule, not whatever's left

☑ One lift instead of two trips, with the service work bundled in

Any faults turn up now too, while there's time to sort them calmly. Find the same one in April and you're in the queue with everyone else.

Leave it to October and the weather starts deciding for you. A cancelled crossing means a new booking, and a boat put away wet holds that damp all winter.

📞 Give the yard a call at (604) 936-4602 and we'll find you a date. Takes about two minutes, and you don't need to have everything figured out first.

Here's the full rundown, including what's worth bundling into the same lift and what to have ready before you call: https://x.gd/4FLDo

Booking your fall boat haul-out in August or early September gets you the date you want, lets you fold service into the same lift, and keeps deferred work clear of the April spring-service bottleneck.

BC water is hard on boats. Silver Streak boats are built for exactly that.

Welded aluminum, for a start. Here's why BC buyers keep choosing it:

☑ One welded hull. No rivets, nothing to loosen, nothing to leak
☑ A hard top that keeps you out there all winter
☑ Rigged by us with a Mercury 115hp FourStroke, and we're Canada's largest Mercury dealer

The 18' Carmanah Hard Top in this photo just sold off our Port Moody dock. Every Silver Streak is built to order, so if you want one for next season, let's talk soon.

Had to stop and capture this one. Glass water, mountains waking up, the whole marina still asleep at 6am.

This is why I love the early starts. If you're ever at Reed Point, come say hi.

Kicker season question: how many pulls does your old trolling motor need before it wakes up?

The 2026 Mercury 9.9 ProKicker skips that whole ritual. Push-button electric start, power trim from the helm, and a 25-inch shaft built for the tall transoms and sailboats we see all over BC.

☑ 9.9 bhp (7.3 kW) twin-cylinder, made for slow, steady trolling days
☑ Electric start and power trim, no pull cord, no reaching over the stern
☑ 25-inch (63.5 cm) shaft with remote or tiller steering, your pick

This one is in stock at our Port Moody shop right now, on sale with $1,025 off, and covered by a 3-year Mercury factory warranty. Come see it before someone else's salmon does.

Fuelling a boat is the most dangerous two minutes of your day on the water. Here's how to make it boring.

The vapours don't drift away as they do at the gas station. They sink into the bilge and wait for a spark.

☑ Before: passengers off, engines off, flames out, hatches closed
☑ During: stay with the nozzle, keep it touching the fill, stop short of full
☑ After: wipe up, ventilate, run the blower for four minutes, sniff test before the key

Two minutes at the dock. That's the whole cost.

Read the full routine before your next fill, portable tanks included ➡️ https://x.gd/iiweu

📞 Smell fuel that won't clear? That's a stop-everything call: (604) 936-4602.

Fuelling a boat safely comes down to three phases: shut down before, stay with the nozzle during, and ventilate after. Follow the Transport Canada routine and trust your nose before the key.

Your outboard warns you before it strands you. Every time.

Nobody plans a tow back to the dock. Motors are chatty, and they almost always tell you something is wrong before they quit. The trick is knowing what to listen for.

☑ Overheating alarm or a weak telltale stream: stop now, not after one more run
☑ Hard starting or rough idle: it rarely fixes itself and always gets worse
☑ New vibration or dropping speed: small stuff stacking up before it gets expensive

We broke down all 7 warning signs and what to do about each one. Full post here ➡️ https://x.gd/LWlfq

Seeing more than one sign at once? 📞 (604) 936-4602. July is our busiest stretch, so the sooner you call, the sooner you're back out there.

Overheating, hard starting, strange noises? These are 7 warning signs your outboard needs repair. Learn what each sign means and when to book service with the Mercury-authorized team at Inlet Marine.
