A quick post to let everyone know the airport is open, and doing what we do best, handling flights and refueling aircraft operating in the area, including EHS Lifeflight, Nova Scotia Power, and others. Coffee is always on and free and we always have power so if you need spot to charge up, you, or your phone, drop by.

We've become aware of people being concerned about a potential crash of an airplane nearby.
Fortunately, the person reporting actually saw an amphibious airplane descending while practicing water landings and all is well.
With that said, all of us in the aviation community are thankful that the person or persons who called 911 did so. If you're ever unsure, please call the authorities and they'll work to be certain everything is okay.

The world lost a great fellow, and staunch supporter of the airport with the passing of Kingsley Brown. We are saddened to hear of his passing but we rest assured he's flying above everyone now.

While the weather may be a little brisk, it's been a busy day at the airport! Check out this shot of this RCAF Search and Rescue Helicopter all the way from 440 Squadron in Goose Bay. They've been training in the area over the past few days.

We're pleased to announce that Nav Canada has approved and published our new approaches to our runways. With minimums now reduced from over 500 foot ceilings to 250 feet and only requiring one mile of visibility, this will allow aircraft to land safely during poor weather, increasing safety, and allowing for our foggy and cloudy days to not impact airport operations.

This is a game changer, whether you're arriving for an important meeting, a golf vacation, or in dire need of an EHS Lifeflight, this new investment will help everyone.

Last night the MacDonald clan and friends gathered in D'Escousse to say farewell to a legend in the Aviation World. Al MacDonald, who passed away at the age of 81 was a father, grandfather, a family man, and a whole bunch of other great things.

Al was an incredible Aviation Maintenance Engineer, a skillful pilot who traveled quite literally to the ends of the earth, and a gifted storyteller who could meld all of these traits into a hell of a tale. He could have you on an adventure to the North Pole as if you were sitting right there with him, or maybe you'd be on a resupply mission to the Haughton Mars Project. Exploration Camps, Caribou Surveys, one Pole or the other, Al flew in some of the coolest, and sometimes coldest places. The stories were truly endless.

A dreamer, who seemingly realized most of his dreams, we say good bye from the airport where he took so many of us on our first flight, or lifted us up into the cockpit of an airplane, or helped fix up broken airplanes, where he and his wife always made sure everyone was welcomed, had a cup of tea, and exchanged stories. May you have fair winds, blue skies, and never freeze your fingers again. Farewell Al.
