Dunnville Grand Fondo weekend is here — let’s get those bikes dialed.
A little prep before you roll out makes a massive difference in how your ride feels and how smoothly your day goes.

Pre‑Ride Prep
~ Bike wipe‑down — Keeps grit out of your components and your hands clean.
~ Tire pressure check — Proper PSI = better control and fewer surprises.
~ Brake check — Quiet, confident stopping all day.
~ Drivetrain clean — Sets the stage for the real upgrade.

Hot Wax Your Chain — Here’s Why!
Hot waxing isn’t just a mechanic’s trick — it’s one of the biggest performance boosts you can make before a Fondo.
1. Lower friction = smoother power transfer and less fatigue.
2. Cleaner ride — No greasy mess, no black hands, no grime buildup.
3. Longer drivetrain life — Wax repels dirt instead of attracting it.
4. Quiet shifting — Crisp, silent, efficient.

Bottom Line
Show up with a clean bike and a hot‑waxed chain, and you’ll feel the difference from the first pedal stroke — smoother, faster, quieter, and way more enjoyable.

August Bike Service Reality Check

August brings its own set of mid‑season wear and tear. Here’s what we’re seeing most often in the shop right now:

1. Dirty drivetrains — Grit and sweat build up fast in summer. A clean chain and cassette shift better and last longer.
2. Over‑inflated tires — High pressure might feel fast, but it reduces traction and comfort. Check your sidewall for recommended PSI.
3. Unsupported e‑bikes — Many online‑purchased e‑bikes lack warranty or parts availability. We’ll help where we can, but support matters.
4. Worn handlebar tape and grips — Sweat and sun break down materials. Fresh tape improves comfort and control.
5. Bald tires — Smooth tread means reduced grip and higher puncture risk.
6. Stretched chains — Chains wear faster in heat and dust. Replacing early protects your drivetrain.
7. Dry or under‑lubricated drivetrains — Lubrication is essential for smooth shifting and longevity.
8. Frayed cables — Small cable issues can lead to shifting or braking failure.
9. Outdated electronic shifting firmware — Updates improve reliability and battery life.
10. Spongy brakes — Heat and humidity affect fluid and pads. If your lever pulls too far, it’s time for service.

We know life is busy and budgets are real. Bring your bike in as‑is — no judgment, no pressure. We’ll help you prioritize what matters most for safety, performance, and keeping your summer miles rolling smoothly.

Ride Ready Report — Monday, June 15th
Port Dover, Ontario
Tomorrow is shaping up to be a beautiful, dry, mainly sunny ride day — a welcome break after Sunday’s storms.

Morning: 12°C (feels 10°C), Mainly sunny, W wind 25 km/h, gusts 47 km/h, POP 20%
Afternoon: 19°C (feels 19°C), Mainly sunny, W wind 32 km/h, gusts 50 km/h, POP 20%
Evening: 18°C, Mainly sunny, SW wind 22 km/h, gusts 42 km/h, POP 20%
Overnight: 14°C, partly cloudy, SW wind 19 km/h, POP 20%

Wind Notes
It’s a windy one — steady west winds with gusts up to 50 km/h in the afternoon.
Not dangerous, but you’ll feel it on open farm roads and lakeshore stretches.

Best Time to Ride
Morning or evening are your sweet spots.
Afternoon is still great, just the windiest part of the day.

Ride Recommendation
Green‑light day.
Dry roads, sunshine, and comfortable temps make this a perfect day for a longer loop, a coffee ride, or a social spin.
Just expect a bit of a push heading west — and a glorious tailwind coming home.

Quick Reminders
UV will be strong with all that sun
Hydrate — cooler temps can trick you
Secure anything that catches wind (vests, loose pockets, etc.)

RIDE READY REPORT — SUNDAY, JUNE 14, 2026
Port Dover • North Shore Cycle

Morning (6–11 AM)
A wet start. Expect steady showers through the morning with temps around 14–16°C. Roads will be slick, visibility reduced, and the wind off the lake will add a bit of chill. If you’re riding early, waterproofs and fenders are mandatory.

Mid‑Day (11 AM–4 PM)
Rain tapers to on‑and‑off showers. Not a washout, but not fully dry either. Temps rise to 18–20°C with a light southwest breeze. Rideable if you’re comfortable with mixed conditions, but expect spray and grit.

Evening (4–9 PM)
Finally improving. Skies break up, winds ease, and temps settle around 17–19°C. This is your best window for a clean, enjoyable ride. Roads will still be damp but much more manageable.

Ride Call
Cautiously Ride Ready — later in the day.
Morning is a rain‑soaker, mid‑day is hit‑and‑miss, but the evening looks solid for anyone wanting smoother miles. If you want quality, wait it out. If you’re stubborn, pack a rain jacket and a sense of humour.

On This Day — Cycling History
June 14, 1903: Henri Desgrange announced the creation of the first Tour de France, setting the wheels in motion for the most legendary race in cycling.
