trimming out this new timber frame build has been a treat so far. the contortion required to access the peak of this ceiling has made this specific install quite interesting, but that is why we practice yoga & are in good standing with our local chiropractor. whatever it takes to get the job done 🧘🏻‍♂️

• picture framed topping with breaker boards, no miters or butt joints to mitigate the inevitable shrinkage that occurs with pressure treated lumber
• scribed stairs to the landscape where necessary to create a seamless transition between deck and earth
• wraps around two sides of the cottage to create an accessible outdoor lounge space

*railings to be installed by others

deck details 🛠️

• no miters were used in topping this deck. pressure treated tends to shrink, leaving gaps between miters and butt joints. in effort to mitigate this shrinkage over time, we used full length boards with a breaker board in the middle of the deck, ultimately resulting in there being no direct joints between any 5/4” deck topping boards. a bit of a twist on the standard picture frame deck and not for everyone, but we like it!!
