We're building a team. Not just filling positions.

There's a lot happening at CIP as we establish our new Edmonton operations, and one of the most important parts of that growth is finding the right people to build it with us.

We're expanding our modular installation and transportation services into Alberta, creating new opportunities to support projects, businesses, and communities throughout the region.

But equipment, facilities, and experience only get you so far. It's the people behind the work who make the difference.

Kevin came to see how we do things in Nanaimo. This time, Mike got to return the favour.

Mike caught up with Kevin Lockert, VP Operations at Alta-Fab Structures, for a tour of their manufacturing facility in Alberta.

And if you know Mike, you know putting him in a modular factory with overhead cranes, active production lines and buildings at different stages of construction is a pretty good way to spend an afternoon.

Alta-Fab runs a large operation, and there was plenty happening on the floor.

Different facilities have different equipment, processes and ways of keeping production moving. Getting the opportunity to see those differences firsthand — and compare notes with other people who know this industry — is always worthwhile.

Years of LinkedIn conversations and phone calls finally turned into a proper visit.

Mike stopped in to see Cheryl Watt, President of Northgate Industries, while travelling through the Edmonton area.

Mike and Cheryl have known each other for several years through the modular industry. They've stayed in touch, talked shop and even had the chance to work together when CIP helped Northgate with a small project in Duncan.

This time Mike got to see Northgate's operation for himself and spend some time catching up with Cheryl.

Northgate has a long history in modular construction in Alberta, and it's always worthwhile seeing how another experienced team approaches the work.

CIP Modular is growing, and we’re pleased to introduce the person who will be helping lead our next chapter in Alberta and Northern Canada.

Please join us in welcoming Evan Pryor, Regional Manager – Alberta & Northern Canada.

Evan brings a strong combination of field experience, project supervision and operational leadership to the role. His experience in modular construction goes back more than a decade, with his career taking him from hands-on installation and field work through crew leadership, project supervision and construction management.

Most recently, Evan worked with Karve Builders in Alberta as a Project Supervisor and Lead Hand. Prior to that, his time with Sockeye Modular Installations saw him progress through several roles, eventually becoming Construction Manager with responsibility for day-to-day operations, crew deployment, client relationships, procurement and project oversight.
That hands-on understanding of how modular projects actually come together in the field is important to us.

As CIP expands its presence in Alberta and Northern Canada, Evan will play an important role in developing our regional operations, supporting clients and projects, and building the relationships that will help establish CIP for the long term.

We’re excited about where we’re headed — and very happy to have Evan helping lead the way.

Take a look at how perfectly this one fit the trailer.

We didn’t even have to extend it.

BC Ferries recently called on CIP Transport & Logistics to move some of their training equipment from Swartz Bay Terminal in Victoria over to Langdale Terminal.

The cargo included a sea container with a deflated raft and other equipment, plus a platform and stair set. Their terminal maintenance crews were ready with a crane truck at each end so the equipment could be loaded and offloaded efficiently.

Not every transport job needs to be oversized or complicated to be interesting. Sometimes everything measures out, the equipment is ready, the crews are coordinated, and the load fits exactly where you planned for it to go.

Thanks to the BC Ferries crews at both terminals for making this one a smooth move.

Some connections take a few years before you finally meet in person.

Mike and Cory Rosenau, President of Untapped Modulars, have crossed paths online through the modular industry for years. Until Mike’s Alberta trip, though, they had never actually met face-to-face.

That changed in Edmonton.

With plenty of years in the modular industry between them, we're guessing they weren’t short on things to talk about.

A familiar face in Calgary.

Mike had a chance to catch up with longtime friend and industry colleague Steve Nomura of Oliphia Associates and BCIT while he was on the road.

These two go back many years. They’ve worked together, shared plenty of industry knowledge and stayed connected through it all.

That’s one of the things Mike has enjoyed most about this trip. It isn’t only about making new connections. It’s also a chance to reconnect with people who have been part of the journey for a long time.

Great seeing you, Steve, and a well-deserved shoutout to Oliphia Associates.

Mike's Calgary camera roll has been a good mix of meetings, city views and apparently the local wildlife.

One of his stops was Black Diamond Group, where he caught up with Dave MacDonell, General Manager, Project Management.

Mike and Dave go back many years in the industry. It's always nice when a business trip gives you the chance to reconnect with someone you've known for a long time, see what they're up to and trade a few stories along the way.

Another great Calgary conversation from Mike's trip through Western Canada.

Late last week, Mike met up with Rod Duhamel of Used Modulars Canada and Mike Guthrie of C&V Facilities Maintenance Services.

Nothing complicated about this one. Just three guys with plenty of industry experience getting together to talk about what everyone has going on, where things are headed and opportunities to work together.

Mike Guthrie has also been in Mike and CIP's corner for a long time, particularly here on social media. That kind of support doesn't go unnoticed.

Mike managed to fit in a little sightseeing while he was in Calgary too. If you're going to put this many kilometres on the truck, you might as well see some of the country along the way.
