🚛 Choosing a moving company based ONLY on the cheapest quote is like choosing a sushi restaurant based solely on “$1 all-you-can-eat.”
Technically… possible. Emotionally, mentally, and physically (and gastrointestinally…) dangerous. 😬
Before you hand strangers your grandmother’s china and your emotional support air fryer, do your homework:
✅ Read reviews!
Google reviews, Facebook reviews, and real customer experiences matter. But read carefully! A suspicious number of “5 stars, great service” reviews posted at 2:13 AM? Maybe proceed cautiously.
✅ Check BBB ratings!
A good Better Business Bureau rating can tell you a lot about professionalism, complaints, and how problems are handled when things go sideways.
✅ Make sure they’re insured!
Because “Oops, we dropped your TV” hits differently when nobody’s covered. If they’re not discussing insurance options with you, at the very least, check your own homeowners insurance policy…
✅ Get a detailed and thorough estimate!
If the quote looks like it was written on a napkin with “trust me bro” energy… run.
✅ Ask about hidden fees!
Stairs? Long carry? Heavy items? Weekend moves? Some companies add charges faster than you can say “why is moving so expensive?” A reputable company will be upfront and honest about these charges, which is why they ask for a thorough inventory and details about your residence — they’re not being nosy! It’s to provide you the most accurate estimate, and to plan and prepare their crew accordingly.
✅ Beware of prices that seem TOO good!
Lowball quotes can magically transform into surprise charges on moving day. Suddenly your “cheap move” costs more than your first car. 🫠 If they’re not asking for an inventory, be prepared for them to come back with the excuse, “You’ve got more than we thought, so it’s double the original estimate!”
The best moving companies aren’t always the cheapest. They’re the ones that show up on time, communicate clearly, handle your belongings carefully, and don’t disappear into the night with your sectional.
Save yourself stress. Research first.
Your future self, surrounded by intact furniture and functioning sanity, will thank you. 📦✨
