I’m not really sure how you sum up 16 years in a few paragraphs.
I haven’t talked about this publicly yet, although many people in my life already know that the company I’ve worked for all these years is coming to an end. I think part of that is because I haven’t quite known what to say.
I started here during my final year of college, looking for a place to complete my work term. That turned into a full-time job and, all these years later, I’m closing a chapter that has been part of nearly my entire adult working life.
When I look back, I think what I’ll remember most is everything I had the opportunity to create.
I worked on more products and designs than I could ever count — from product concepts and stationery collections to patterns, packaging and artwork that made their way into celebrations all over the world. Some became bestsellers. Artwork I painted by hand became one of our number-one-selling products, and illustrations I drew became one of our top-selling stationery collections for years.
There’s something pretty special about knowing that things that started as an idea, sketch or painting became a small part of so many people’s important moments.
But it was about more than the things I created. It was the people, friendships, laughs, stressful deadlines, creative challenges and ordinary days that eventually became memories.
I’m leaving with countless projects behind me and a much better understanding of the designer I am and the kind of work I want to create.
This chapter may not be ending quite the way I imagined, and I have a lot of mixed emotions about saying goodbye.
But more than anything, I’m proud of what I created during those 16 years.
And I think this chapter deserves a moment before I turn the page. ❤️
