The Dory Shop A small historic wooden dory building yard in the UNESCO World Heritage Town Lunenburg, Nova Scotia.

In 1916, back when fishing schooners filled Lunenburg's habour, Lawrence Allen opened The Dory Shop. Today, 100 years later, we continue to build wooden dories using the same jigs and patterns and many of the same tools and with the same types of wood Lawrence used so many years ago.

By now you’ve probably caught wind of the new tariffs on goods coming down from Canada. But if yer looking for a dory or another custom wooden skiff don’t worry.

Small wooden boats like ours are not affected by all this and still qualify for duty free treatment under the trade agreement between Canada and the US, and we’ll handle the paperwork on our end with our broker. No extra costs folks!

We’re still here building the same boats the same way we always have, and we’re glad to keep sending them your way.

⚓ The Shantymen of Mahone Bay are excited and honoured to have been invited by the CDRA - Canadian DoryRacing Association to perform during the 75th Annual International Dory Races in Lunenburg! 🎶

For 75 years, crews from Lunenburg, Nova Scotia and Gloucester, Massachusetts have gathered to celebrate one of the longest-running maritime traditions on the Atlantic coast.

The International Dory Races commemorate the fishing heritage shared by both communities. In the days of the Grand Banks fishery, fishermen worked from sturdy wooden dories launched from the decks of schooners. Those hardworking boats eventually inspired a friendly cross-border rivalry that continues to this day.

The races begin at 10:00 a.m. on the Lunenburg waterfront at Adams & Knickle Wharf, where crews from Canada and the United States will once again compete for international bragging rights.

We're delighted to help celebrate this milestone anniversary, details of our performance:
