Students have arrived at YLW!✈️🎉

Students from across Canada and around the world touched down at YLW on Wednesday for UBC Okanagan’s Move-In Day. From Ontario and the Prairies to destinations overseas, many students got their first glimpse of Kelowna as they landed at YLW.

Our team, alongside UBC Okanagan student leaders, were excited to welcome them with smiles, treats, and a warm Okanagan welcome.

✈️The YLW junior ambassador program has arrived!

Last week our newly formed YLW junior ambassadors were honoured to be part of the Westbank First Nation’s 14th annual youth and recreation charity golf tournament, with a Happy Gilmore theme! ⛳

Carrie and Aaron were stationed at the 18th tee-box handing out YLW swag and playing a very competitive game of co****le as golfers tried to “tap, tap, tap it in,” while wearing some of their favourite outfits from the movie!

More importantly the funds raised during the tournament are going towards a new Sports Legacy fund that will support WFN athletes and assist with covering costs of tournament fees, equipment and training.

YLW’s trained AmbassaDogs spend time in the terminal offering comfort and support to travellers and airport users who may be feeling a little anxious or stressed about their journey.⁠

✈️Great news for families near YLW! The Kelowna Airport YMCA Child Care Centre currently has spaces available for little pilots ages 3–5! 🛴

Conveniently located on the airport campus, the centre is open Monday to Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., making it a great option for working families in our area.
The YMCA's research-based Playing to Learn curriculum encourages children to learn through play while supporting their development in literacy, numeracy, motor skills, problem-solving, creativity, and social-emotional growth. Programs are led by highly trained Early Childhood Educators who participate in ongoing professional development and follow the YMCA's comprehensive Child Protection Policy to help ensure a safe, nurturing environment.

As a charitable organization, the YMCA also offers financial assistance, in addition to government subsidies, to help make quality childcare more accessible for families. 🧑‍🧑‍🧒‍🧒

🚲 A new section of the Okanagan Rail Trail has taken off at YLW!⁠

This opening has been a long time coming. Since the trail first opened in 2018, this connection has been eagerly anticipated by the community running straight through the airport campus.⁠

The new 3.2-kilometre section connects Old Vernon Road to the Lake Country boundary, running alongside the YLW runway and gives you another stretch to safely explore by bike, scooter or on foot.⁠

The opening was celebrated with Kelowna Mayor Tom Dyas, Local MP and Secretary of State Stephen Fuhr PC CD and the Friends of the Okanagan Rail Trail, along with community members who helped make this connection possible.⁠

And if you’re exploring the trail or coming to the Wings and Wheels event this Saturday at YLW, there’s a convenient new stop along the way...⁠

The YLW section begins beside our new solar e-bike hub, with secure parking and charging for up to eight bikes or scooters. ☀️

⁠Enjoy the new section safely, slow down, always wear your helmet and if you need a charge, stop at YLW before continuing on your way!⁠
