Celebrate Ontario Carriers and Drivers Who Respect Safety & Follow the Rules this NTW: OTA Chair
(TORONTO, Sept. 8, 2026) -- As National Trucking Week 2026 (September 6–12) gets underway, the Ontario Trucking Association (OTA) is calling on Ontarians to recognize the hundreds of thousands of people whose hard work keeps the province’s supply chains moving and our economy functioning.
National Trucking Week is an opportunity to recognize the vital role trucking plays across Ontario and to celebrate the companies and individuals who continue to put safety, compliance and professionalism at the centre of their operations.
“Ontario’s trucking industry is built on companies and people who take their responsibilities seriously,” said OTA Chair Mark Bylsma. “They invest in safe equipment, follow the law, treat their employees fairly and do the right thing, even when doing so can put them at a competitive disadvantage with the growing number of carriers who refuse to play by the rules.”
Ontario’s trucking industry is operating in an increasingly challenging environment. Carriers are facing rising costs, economic uncertainty, regulatory pressures and unfair competition.
“Professional trucking is about much more than moving freight from one destination to another. It is about operating safely, maintaining equipment, complying with regulations and ensuring drivers and employees are treated with the respect they deserve,” he said. “Ontario needs a strong and professional trucking sector, and that starts with recognizing the companies that uphold the standards the public expects.
The trucking industry is also much more than the people behind the wheel. Dispatchers, fleet managers, safety professionals, mechanics and technicians, warehouse workers, logistics specialists and countless others play critical roles in ensuring freight reaches its destination safely and efficiently.
“Every shipment represents a team effort,” said Bylsma. “From the driver behind the wheel, to the technician keeping that truck safe, to the safety professional making sure regulations are followed and the dispatcher coordinating the movement of freight, thousands of people work every day to keep Ontario moving. National Trucking Week gives us an opportunity to recognize all of them.”
National Trucking Week was established by the Canadian Trucking Alliance in the late 1990s to celebrate the vital contribution of the trucking industry and shine a spotlight on the hundreds of thousands of Canadians who work in the sector.
