Due to the hard work from our FireRangers and aviation staff, Cochrane 26, located approximately 27 kilometres south of Hearst, is now ‘being held’ at 74.7 hectares. Five FireRanger crews remain assigned to the fire today with helicopter bucketing support as required.

Six FireRanger crews are making good progress on wildland fire Cochrane 26, located approximately 27 kilometres south of Hearst. CL-415 waterbombers and lead birddog aircraft were on the scene both Friday and Saturday. Today, a helicopter equipped with a belly tank is conducting water drops to support crews on the ground. This fire has been remapped at 74.7 hectares. The perimeter can be found on our interactive fire map at ontario.ca/fireupdates.

Out flying? Steer clear of wildland fires.

Section 601.15 of the Canadian Aviation Regulations states that the airspace around a wildland fire (within five nautical miles) is automatically restricted to wildland fire suppression aircraft only. 🛩️

This also applies to drones and UAVs. When unauthorized aircraft enters the airspace around a wildland fire, all aerial operations must be grounded to minimize safety risks. This delays the suppression of active wildland fires.
