Canada has launched a new Transportation and Supply Chain Workforce Alliance to address workforce challenges across the industry.

Led by Trucking HR Canada in partnership with CIFFA, the alliance will bring together employers, educators, labour organizations, and Indigenous partners. Its work will focus on skills development, attracting new talent, adapting to technology, and identifying solutions to labour shortages.

Why does this matter for trucking? Drivers and other transportation professionals are essential to keeping goods moving. The alliance creates an opportunity for the industry to work together on the skills and workforce it will need in the years ahead.

It’s a new initiative—not an announcement of immediate changes to driver pay or hiring. We’ll be watching how its plans develop.

Canada has extended the temporary suspension of the federal excise tax on diesel through January 31, 2027.

For truck drivers and carriers, the relief represents 4 cents per litre. That could equal approximately $40 in tax relief on a 1,000-litre fill-up—and considerably more across an entire fleet.

The tax is scheduled to return gradually:

• 0¢/L through January 31, 2027
• 2¢/L from February 1 to March 31, 2027
• 4¢/L beginning April 1, 2027

While actual pump prices depend on market conditions, the extension may provide some welcome breathing room for carriers managing high operating costs and tight margins.

Fatigue doesn’t always hit without warning. Your body often sends signals before the situation becomes dangerous.

Watch for these early signs:

• Heavy eyes or frequent blinking
• Repeated yawning
• Blurred vision
• Wandering thoughts
• Missing road signs or exits
• Drifting out of your lane

If you notice any of them, don’t try to push through. Pull over in a safe place and rest.

Coffee, loud music, or an open window may make you feel more alert for a moment—but they cannot replace sleep.

No delivery is more important than your safety.
