DETAILED DAILY ITINERARY and PROGRAM
Day 1& 2 – Arrival by plane in Cluj-Napoca, evening dinner and general briefing, overnight stay in Cluj*
Day 3-Two-hour tour of the Cluj by car, enjoy learning about its history from Roman Empire times to present day, visit Salina Turda (salt mine), drive to and visit Alba Iulia Citadel, finish the day and stay overnight in Sibiu area.
Day 4 – Two-hour car tour of Sibiu with visit the ethnographic museum, drive to Bran Castel, the world-famous Dracula’s home. Enjoy the complete castle tour, learn the truth beyond the legends, buy your souvenirs and gifts and then relax on the short drive to Brasov for the overnight stay.
Day 5 – Two-hour car tour of Brasov, visit the Black Church and town’s central square, savor the drive to the one of a kind Sighisoara Citadel, a special place continuously inhabited since medieval times. After the Citadel visit, with its art galleries, restaurants and vibrant life we drive to Corunca the resting place for the night.
Day 6 – Brief car tour of city of Tg Mures, then drive to Sovata Bai, where you will relax in the hot pools and get the occasion to be pampered by spa treatments. You can visit Bear Lake, a helio thermal lake unique in Europe or get on a train excursion on narrow tracks pulled by a steam engine. Overnight stay in town where you can also enjoy some authentic Hungarian cuisine together with the Romanian.
Day 7 – Drive to Corund, a renowned pottery village, tour the magnificent Lacul Rosu and Cheile Bicazului, then drive to Ditrau to visit the majestic Catholic Cathedral and on to Borsec for the overnight stay where you can drink the sparkling mineral water straight out of source or get pampered at the Fontana Spa.
Day 8 – Drive the Mures River gorge, visit Kemeni Castel in Brancovenesti, tour Reghin and Batos orchards, visit Teleki Castle, drive to Bistrita and on to the overnight stay in Rodna. There you can enjoy some ATV or bicycle rides if you feel adventurous enough.
Day 9 – Drive on to Sangeorz Bai and visit the art museum, then drive on to historical Northern Maramures region visit some of the many local artisan shops, enjoy the unique style of architecture, visit Barsana Monastery then on to Vadul Izei and overnight stay in Sighetu Marmatiei.
Day 10 – Short tour of City of Sighet and the memorial museums, drive to Sapanta and see world renown Merry Cemetery, drive through Certeze, visit Seini and a local sawmill and on to Baia Mare. There you will enjoy a visit to Minerals Museum before calling it a day over a traditional dinner accompanied by local music and songs and some potent plum snaps for the amateurs.
Day 11 – Brief tour the old square in Baia Mare and local art galleries, enjoy an astronomy lecture at the Planetarium, drive on to Casa Olarului in Baia Sprie. Here you will stay overnight but not before meeting a special man Dan Les, a master in pottery, visit his workplace and gallery enjoy the special welcome.
Day 12 – Today a lighter trip, a tour of the small Baia Sprie city and surroundings, then drive to Targu Lapus and visit Rohia monastery, tour briefly cities of Dej and Gherla before you arrive in Mintiul Gherlii at the B&B Pike Lake. Here you can try your hand fishing or just relax in the heated pool before a copious dinner and well-deserved relaxation before tomorrow’s home return.
Day 13 – Short drive to Cluj Napoca airport and return to Canada*
