📣FRENCH-SEVERN FOREST 2029–2039: PUBLIC CONSULTATION NOW OPEN!

For decades, people have been demanding an end to chemical herbicide spraying in Ontario's public forests. Indigenous Communities have formally opposed it since the 1980s. Municipalities are now standing with Indigenous Leadership, passing resolutions demanding change. ✊ 21 in and arround the French-Severn.

Here's what we know about the FRENCH-SEVERN FOREST:

2024: Aerial spraying postponed to build a larger, more "cost-effective" spray program.
2025: 200 hectares ground sprayed with Garlon RTU (triclopyr).
2026: WHERE IS THE POSTPONED AERIAL SPRAY PROGRAM? Was it carried out in 2026, postponed again, or is an even larger area still awaiting treatment? 🤷🏻‍♀️

So we still can't get clear information about this year's spraying, yet we're being asked to comment on the NEXT TEN YEARS of forest management. 🙄

SUBJECT: French-Severn Forest 2029-2039 - Official Notice of Non-Consent and Demand to End Chemical Forestry

COPY AND PASTE EMAIL:

I am submitting this public comment as my formal objection and Notice of Non-Consent to chemical herbicide use in the French-Severn Forest.

I do not consent to continued chemical herbicide spraying in our public forests.

I demand that all chemical site preparation and chemical tending be removed from the French-Severn Forest 2029–2039 Forest Management Plan.

Our forests, watersheds, wildlife and communities deserve protection, not more chemical exposure. Eight Ontario Forest Management Units are already operating without chemical herbicide spraying, and Québec ended herbicide spraying in its public forests in 2001. Ontario has had 25 years to modernize it's forestry practices.

Please place this formal objection on the official public consultation record and confirm receipt.

Thank You,

Did you know our governments routinely allow to be sprayed across Canada’s forests?

Yes, glyphosate. The same chemical many municipalities restrict or ban for cosmetic lawn use because we don’t want it around our homes, parks, kids, pets, wells, gardens, and neighbourhoods.

But somehow it is still considered acceptable to spray it over forests.

Forests full of berries.
Forests full of mushrooms.
Forests full of medicines.
Forests full of wildlife.
Forests beside rivers, lakes, wetlands, and communities.

This summer, while driving through northern Ontario, I kept seeing “Stop the Spray” signs. That is when it really hit me: this is not some small, isolated practice. Chemical spraying is being used as a forestry tool.

And once you see it, you can’t unsee it.

Instead of investing seriously in mechanical thinning, selective harvesting, Indigenous-led stewardship, and better fibre recovery, we are still spraying broad areas of our country to kill off competing vegetation so selected trees can grow faster.

If glyphosate is considered too risky for cosmetic use in our communities, why is it acceptable in our forests?

If we don’t want it on our lawns, why are we okay with it on our berries, mushrooms, waterways, and wildlife habitat?

We need to stop pretending this is normal.

Write your MPP. Write your MP. Ask them directly: Sandy Shaw

Why is glyphosate restricted around our homes but still sprayed in our forests?

It is time to stop the spray.

A national campaign working to end Chemical Forestry across Canada, following Québec’s lead in ending forest herbicide spraying.

See where herbicide spraying remains active in Ontario’s public forests, which forests are currently spray-free, and where 2026 herbicide treatments are identified.

Please watch and share this.

We need to ask our provincial and federal politicians to stop the aerial spraying of glyphosate in Canadian forests.

Whatever your political stripe, this is a public land and public health issue. Forests should be regenerated through better forestry practices, mixed-species management, thinning, mechanical brushing, and real stewardship, not by spraying chemicals from helicopters to suppress broadleaf trees and simplify forests for industrial planting.

If this concerns you, please contact your MLA/MPP/MNA and your MP and ask them to:

Stop glyphosate spraying on public forests.

Require full public reporting of where, when, and how much is sprayed.

Support non-chemical forestry and better use of low-grade and competing fibre.

Our forests are more than fibre crops. They are habitat, water systems, medicine, carbon storage, and future resilience.
