Where should you go this winter?

That depends on what kind of vacation you’re looking for.

Do you want to spend the week at a resort with everything taken care of? Unpack once on a cruise and wake up somewhere new? Or explore a city, try the restaurants and see as much as you can?

There isn’t one winter destination that works for everyone. Your dates, budget, who you’re travelling with and how you actually like to spend your time all matter.

Shoulder season is the stretch just before or after a destination’s busiest travel period—and it can be one of the best times to go.

Depending on the destination, you may find fewer crowds, better hotel availability, lower prices and milder weather.

But it isn’t automatically the best choice everywhere. Weather can be less predictable, and seasonal tours, restaurants or attractions may have reduced hours. The right timing can also vary from one destination to another.

That’s why I look beyond the lowest price when recommending travel dates. The best value is the time that gives you the experience you actually want, without paying for peak season when you don’t need to.

One thing I’ve learned from travelling with teens: the same vacation doesn’t work for everyone.

Riya wants the ocean, animals and something new to explore. Jayan wants slow mornings, flexible meals, quiet evenings and permission to skip the crowd.

If there’s a monkey, sloth or swimming pig involved, though? They’re both in. 😂

The goal isn’t getting everyone excited about every single thing. It’s building a trip with enough room for everyone to enjoy it their own way.

Most people think planning a trip is about booking the flight and finding a hotel.

And yes, those are part of it. But they’re usually not the parts that take the most thought.

It’s figuring out whether that connection is actually long enough. Whether the hotel is in the right area for what you want to do. How you’re getting from the airport to the hotel. Whether you need a car. And how much you can realistically fit into each day without spending half your vacation in transit.

Those are the details I spend a lot of time looking at when I’m planning a trip.

A flight can be a great price and still be a terrible option. A beautiful hotel can be completely wrong for your plans. And an itinerary can include everything you want to see but still be exhausting once you try to do it.

The goal isn’t just to get everything booked. It’s to make sure the whole trip actually works together.

Would you cross the Atlantic by cruise ship? 🌊

I honestly wasn’t sure how I would feel about so many sea days, but I ended up loving them way more than I expected.

There’s something about slowing down, watching nothing but ocean for days, and then waking up in Madeira, Gibraltar, Málaga and Corsica—all without having to pack and unpack along the way.

A transatlantic crossing definitely isn’t for everyone, but I would absolutely do it again.

Could you handle all the sea days, or would you be losing your mind by day two? 😂

Universal Orlando has a new 3-Park, 3-Day ticket—and after visiting Epic Universe last November, I really like how this one is set up.

It includes one day at each of Universal Studios Florida, Islands of Adventure and Epic Universe. The days can be used on any three non-consecutive days within a seven-day period, so you don’t have to cram three full park days back-to-back.

Tickets start at $99 USD per day, plus tax ($297 USD total), and a Park-to-Park upgrade is available.

Epic Universe deserves a full day of its own, and the flexibility gives you room for a rest day—or anything else you want to add while you’re in Orlando.

𝗥𝗼𝗺𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗼𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗲𝘀 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗴𝗲𝘁𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗵𝗮𝗹𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲.

Rome was the final stop on my transatlantic cruise from Fort Lauderdale — after crossing the Atlantic and stopping in Madeira, Gibraltar, Málaga and Corsica. Not a bad place to finish.

Of course I wanted to see the big ones — the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain, the Pantheon and the Roman Forum — but Rome was just as much about everything in between.

Coffee and pastries at a little table outside. Gelato while wandering around at night. Walking until you stumble across something you didn't even know was there.

There's so much packed into this city that I wouldn't try to treat it like a checklist. Give yourself some time to just wander.
