📃A message from Fire Chief Wood

As your Fire Chief, I want to take a moment to address growing concerns circulating in our community and on social media regarding the risk of wildland fires. While there is currently no immediate threat to our area, weather and environmental conditions are creating an ideal scenario for fires to spread quickly should one ignite.

Our fire department remains in close communication with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry (MNRF), and we are actively monitoring for any wildland fire activity in the municipality and surrounding area to ensure we are ready to respond quickly and effectively if conditions change. Please read the proactive steps to be a part of keeping our community safe.

Smoke on the horizon - How wildfires can impact airport operations 🌲🔥💨🛫

When wildfires rage, their effects can reach far beyond the burn zone, directly impacting airport operations and travel plans. Here in Dryden, or wherever you're flying from, we might experience effects from wildfires and smoke.

Airports are certified for specific visibility requirements based on the airport's infrastructure and location for aircraft to operate. If visibility drops below these operating parameters, aircraft may not be able to safely land or take off from the airport.

Airports may also have special low visibility operations plans for when conditions drop below a certain threshold ensuring the safety of aircraft, staff, and other airport tenants and users.

Please be sure to check with your chartered air carrier for up to date information around flights for delays, diversions, and/or cancellations.

The weather at the Dryden Airport is actively monitored 24/7 by an Automatic Weather Observation System (AWOS) and updates the weather conditions every hour on the hour or anytime there is a significant change in conditions.

While conducting a property check at the airport, members of the had the opportunity to visit with Royal Canadian Mounted Police officers who landed in Dryden after having spent the day patrolling the Canadian and American border.
