Europe with kids… is actually one of my favourite ways to travel
A lot of people assume Europe is better suited for adults, but some of the best family trips I’ve planned (and taken myself) have been in Europe.
The key is choosing destinations that balance:
✨ Walkability
✨ Culture
✨ Scenery
✨ Food
✨ And experiences kids actually enjoy
Some of my favourite family-friendly destinations in Europe include:
🇫🇷 France – especially Paris when balanced properly with parks, neighbourhoods, slower pacing, and even Disney!
🇩🇰 Denmark – bike-friendly, relaxed, clean, and incredibly easy with kids
🇮🇹 Italy – pizza, gelato, beaches, trains, and family-focused fun everywhere
🇭🇷 Croatia – beautiful coastline, island hopping, and easy outdoor adventure
🇸🇮 Slovenia – one of Europe’s most underrated family destinations with lakes, mountains, caves, and very manageable travel distances
🇦🇱 Albania – affordable, stunning beaches, and a much more relaxed feel than many Mediterranean destinations
🇨🇭 Switzerland – incredible trains, alpine scenery, lakes, fantastic food, and storybook villages that feel straight out of a movie
🇧🇪 Belgium – compact, easy to navigate, beautiful old towns, waffles, chocolate, and easy train connections
🇳🇱 Netherlands – extremely family-friendly with biking culture, canals, parks, great family friendly food, and easy transportation
🇦🇹 Austria – storybook villages, mountains, lakes, and incredible rail travel
🇮🇪 Ireland – small villages, sheep everywhere, cozy pubs, petting farms, incredible coastal scenery, hearty comfort food, and unique experiences
🇮🇸 Iceland – waterfalls, horses, glaciers, hot springs, hot dogs, and nonstop adventure
💡 The biggest mistake I see? Trying to move too fast.
Europe with kids works best when:
👉 You slow down
👉 Stay longer in fewer places
👉 And build in experiences everyone genuinely enjoys
Exposing kids to different cultures, foods, languages, and ways of life is one of the most valuable experiences you can give them.
It’s a huge reason why I love traveling with my own son so much.
