I was in a store recently and it was packed with Halloween decorations, and Christmas is already making an appearance too. 😅

As a small business owner with a focus on sustainability, I always feel a little conflicted about this time of year. On one hand, the holiday shopping season is incredibly important for small businesses like mine. The reality is that The Good Lane needs sales to keep growing!
But on the other hand, I don’t want to be another voice encouraging you to buy more things you don’t really need…

So maybe the message isn’t necessarily to shop with us (although of course I’d love that!), but to think a little more about what “buying better” means to you. Maybe it’s choosing something made locally, supporting a small business, considering who made a product and how, or simply buying something you know will actually get used.

I don’t think there’s one right answer, and I’m certainly not perfect at it either! Anyway, if you’ve read this far, thanks for listening to today’s thoughts! Clearly there’s no perfectly planned social media calendar happening over here. 😂

A few behind-the-scenes photos from the making of our latest batch of stoneware! Each piece is handmade by skilled artisans in Nepal through a Fair Trade certified organization.

But what does Fair Trade actually mean?
It means the people behind the products are paid fairly, work in safe conditions, and are treated as long-term partners. Fair Trade organizations also commit to no child or forced labour, equal opportunities for women, transparency, and respect for the environment.

Knowing where and how our products are made is really important to me, and I love being able to share a little more of the story behind these pieces with you! And because they’re made by hand, no two pieces are exactly alike, something I think makes them even more special!

A new addition to our fair trade stoneware collection!

You can now find a solid dish soap ramekin alongside our soap dish trays and sponge holders!
It’s made to pair perfectly with our new solid dish soap puck - just pop the puck inside, add a little water and use with your favourite dish brush.

Each ramekin is handmade in Nepal by our fair trade production partner and comes in three colours to match the rest of our stoneware collection.

You can shop the ramekin on its own or bundle it with a dish soap puck!

In case you missed it, we now have a Fruit + Veg Cloth Set! 🍓🥕🥦

Here’s the fruit cloth, featuring some real fruit from my kitchen because small business product photography = using what you have 😂 No perfect bananas around here.

This cloth is part of one of the newest sets in The Good Cloth Project, and for every set sold, $1 is donated to Food Banks Canada, helping provide 2 meals.

Each set includes two reusable Swedish sponge cloths, designed and printed in Canada and made for all those everyday kitchen messes.
Good for your kitchen + does a little good, too. 🌱

The Good Lane is looking for friendly, reliable part-time casual help at our booth during the Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market this holiday season!

What you’ll be helping with: • Greeting and helping customers • Sharing a little about The Good Lane and our products • Processing sales using Shopify POS • Restocking and keeping the booth organized • General booth support during busy periods

You might be a great fit if you’re: • Friendly, outgoing and comfortable talking with customers • Reliable and comfortable working independently • Available for shifts across multiple market weekends • Experienced in retail, markets or customer service
• Interested in sustainability and eco-friendly living - a bonus!

Spruce Meadows International Christmas Market Market Dates: Nov. 13–15 Nov. 20–22 Nov. 27–29 Dec. 4–6

Rate: $20+/hour depending on experience  
You don’t need to be available for every market date, but weekend availability is important.

say hello to our newest The Good Cloth Project set 🦊🐇

This Set Protects Wildlife and features artwork by Alberta artist Lyndsay Wasko of Lyndsay Wasko, inspired by some of the wild animals we’re lucky to share this province with.

And, like every The Good Cloth Project set, it gives back. $1 from every set sold is donated to AIWC to support their work rescuing, rehabilitating and releasing injured and orphaned wildlife across Alberta.

A practical little kitchen swap that supports local art, wildlife and a great Alberta organization. 💛
