What an unforgettable evening we had last Tuesday for our mid-year Commanding Officer’s Parade! We were joined by City Councillors, Doug Chapman and Ben Lanyon, who shared in the evening’s excitement as we handed out some stellar promotions, long service medals and more, celebrating the training and accomplishments of the amazing youth in our squadron. Not only that, but the Campbell River Royal Canadian Legion Branch 137’s past president, Alain Chatigny, presented our Squadron Sponsoring Committee with a $5000 cheque to help support our amazing Air Cadet program as well!

Congratulations to everyone 🙂

A HUGE shout out and congratulations to WO2 Wong!! Last night he was presented the Air Force Association Medal, by Major Rolfe, in recognition of being the top Cadet while on his Power Pilot Training Course last summer . Not only that, but WO2 Wong had also scored an outstanding 100% on his Transport Canada written exam during his training. We can see many great things in your future. This is just the beginning!!

Our Cadets proudly participated in the Remembrance Day service yesterday, standing together with their fellow Cadets from 54 Admiral De Wolf and 2943 PPCLI. What a great way to be able to support our local Legion and honour those who served our country and continue to serve, lest we forget.

Big thank you to all of the Campbell River Cadets who volunteered to help support our local Legion, Branch 137, and their poppy campaign!! Hopefully you ran into some of them around town over the last few weekends and were able to pick up a poppy for tomorrow’s ceremony :)

Last weekend, 31 of our cadets participated in the first FTX (Field Training Exercise) of this cadet year alongside the 386 Komox Air Cadets at Camp Gilwell. Over the span of the weekend they had a ton of fun, learned lots of new skills, made new friends and even remembered that it was CI Miller’s birthday 🎂. They didn’t let the rain slow them down either, not one bit! Hopefully their belongings have dried out by now and we can start planning a warmer sunnier version for next time 🙂

We would like to officially welcome Major Mandart Chan to our Squadron!!

The Change of Command Ceremony, officiated by Major Beverley Ennis, took place Tuesday evening with Major Chan assuming command of 363 Captain Brian Barker RCACS from our outgoing Commanding Officer, Captain Tyler Willis.

In addition, Major Ennis had a few extra special presentations to share as well. Captain Tyler Willis, CI Keith Wright, and CI Rosina Huber were presented with Regional Cadet Support Unit (Pacific) Command Team Commendations for their combined commitment and contributions to the squadron and helping in the rebuilding and strengthening of its numbers over the past year.

Congratulations to all, and a special thank you Captain Willis for stepping in to help us rebuild and for all the mentorship and encouragement you shared along the way!

Our cadets get to participate in a lot of amazing opportunities throughout the Air Cadet Program and one of those opportunities is to go gliding. This weekend 17 of our cadets got to partake and it was an amazing day!!

For some this was their first flight, and judging by their grins from ear to ear they enjoyed themselves immensely. Not only that, but FSgt Houser was invited to attend early to be part of the ground crew staff, WO2 Wong got to take some of his fellow Cadets up in the air with his newly acquired glider front seat familiarization rating, and a handful of other cadets got to be involved with helping support the running of the day’s operations.

A huge thank you to everyone who made this experience possible!

Tuesday evening, Major Chan had the pleasure of presenting WO2 Wong with his Glider Front Seat Familiarization Badge.

This is a massive achievement as he is now qualified to take passengers in the back seat on familiarization flights while piloting from the front seat of a glider. This will allow WO2 Wong to fly squadron cadets! How cool is that?!

To make this possible, WO2 Wong had to gain an additional 15 hours of flight time in a glider on top of the time he already invested in gaining his basic Glider Pilot license. CONGRATULATIONS WO2 Wong!!!

Congratulations to our very own Cpl Houser for being awarded Top Cadet of his flight this summer while attending Introduction to Survival at the Vernon CTC and to WO2 Wong for receiving his Wings after completing 7 weeks of rigorous training, solo flights, and countless tests during the Power Pilot Training Course. He has now become a licensed Private Pilot.

Well done, both of you!! May you move on to even bigger and better things this year.
