Last weekend, one of our America 250 locomotives was on display at the Kansas City Southern Historical Society's annual conference in DeQuincy, Louisiana, for local rail fans to see up close.

Whether pulling freight across the U.S. Midwest, or spotted at special rail heritage events in places from Minnesota to Louisiana, our America 250 locomotives bring a piece of living history to every community they pass through.

The National Railway Historical Society and Railway Age magazine selected Canadian Pacific’s Empress 2816 steam locomotive and CPKC’s Final Spike Anniversary Steam Tour as recipient of the 2026 Outstanding Railroad Historic Preservation Award.

We were honoured to be presented this award earlier this month, a special recognition for the men and women who invested so much to make the record-setting, three-nation Final Spike Steam Tour a reality. Relive the nearly 10,000 mile tour from Calgary to Mexico City and back by watching our short film Pulse of the Continent, now available on our YouTube channel.

Beautiful weather + big smiles 🚂☀️

Over the past two weekends, volunteers brought The Little General mini-train to Quebec for two special community events: the Bromont Family Festival and the Montreal Model Train Exposition in Dorval.

Families enjoyed rides and exploring the Little General, while volunteers shared an important reminder along the way: tracks are for trains only.

Thank you for having us Quebec!

Merci de nous avoir accueillis, Québec !

A photo isn’t worth the risk. 📸

It’s never safe to take pictures on train tracks, railway bridges or any railway property — including the right-of-way, which can extend up to 50 feet or 15 metres from the tracks.

Trains are faster and quieter than you think. Always stay off train tracks, follow all railway signs and only cross at designated crossings. Stay alert and stay safe!

It’s that time of the year again. The 2027 calendar contest is accepting submissions! 🚂 June 30 is the last day to submit your best photos for a chance to be featured in next year’s calendar.

Remember to stay safe around tracks at all times when snapping those pics. 📸

Last month, CPKC hosted first responders at our Ogden Campus in Calgary for a national Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER) training event designed to provide them the knowledge and skills to protect their communities effectively during a rail emergency.

Led by the Chemistry Industry Association of Canada and the Railway Association of Canada (RAC), TRANSCAER partners with municipalities, local first responders and community residents along key transportation routes.

“These training sessions allow us to have a unique local flavour and it allows first responders to engage with the equipment and the HazMat personnel at their own speed,” said Chris Miller, Emergency Management and HazMat Officer.

CPKC participates in more than 200 emergency response training events each year to share our expertise while collaborating and building trust with 8,000+ first responders in communities across our network.
