World Pilots’ Day is an opportunity to recognize the people behind every safe, professional, and well-executed flight.

At Sunwest, our team includes over 70 pilots, each bringing the skill, judgment, and calm decision-making required in a complex and constantly changing operating environment.

Aviation can be demanding work. It means early mornings, changing weather, detailed planning, time away from home, and the responsibility that comes with every passenger, crew member, and aircraft. It is also exciting and deeply rewarding work, shaped by trust, precision, and a shared commitment to doing things the right way.

To our current pilots and to the many pilots who have helped shape Sunwest over the years, thank you for the professionalism you bring to every flight and the standards you continue to uphold.

Meet Jenise and Danielle.

Jenise and Danielle started on the ramp in 2011 after completing flight training. Jenise came from MRU, and Danielle trained at VFC. Their first flying job was with Sunwest, flying a Navajo moving bank cargo, followed by the next step as 1900D First Officers.

From there, their paths split. Jenise left to become a Navajo Captain, gained experience, and later returned to Sunwest as a 1900D Captain. Danielle stayed, progressing to Metro II and Metro 23 Captain, and eventually 1900D Captain.

Along the way, they found their life partners and started families. Jenise has two daughters and Danielle has one daughter.

For the past two years, they have been flying the Dash 8 together, both as Captains.

From ramp to flight deck, and from early hours to command, their story is a reminder that aviation careers are built one step at a time, and that you do not have to choose between growing a family and growing in the Captain’s seat.

Meet the Sunwest HR Team (from left to right: Janice, Lendy, Vanessa, Anna)

Behind every new hire and every career milestone, there is a people team making sure Sunwest supports the talent that keeps our operation moving. For Women of Aviation Week, we are recognizing four leaders who help build the culture, processes, and support systems that enable women in aviation to thrive at Sunwest.

Anna, Director
Anna has spent 25 years in HR within the aviation sector and has completed 13 years at Sunwest Aviation. Aviation has been part of her life from the beginning, shaped by a father and husband who both served as Avionic AMEs in the military. She’s built her career around the people who make this industry exceptional and is proud to continue contributing to the field she’s always called home.

Lendy, Payroll
Lendy joined Sunwest Aviation as her first step into the aviation industry and has now built 7.5 years of experience with the company. A recognized expert in payroll, she combines precision with deep operational knowledge. Beyond her core role, Lendy is known for her advanced Excel skills and serves as the company’s go-to trainer, helping teams across Sunwest work smarter and more efficiently.

Janice, Recruitment
With over 40 years of recruiting experience, Janice brings a passion and dedication to her work. The last 18 years have been specialized in aviation recruitment at Sunwest. Her focus is a commitment to finding the right person for every job type Sunwest offers. She brings professionalism, friendliness, dependability, and a keen sense of what the future holds, especially for women in aviation.

Vanessa, HR Generalist
Vanessa brings a fresh HR perspective backed by deep aviation roots. After nine years with WestJet and 2.5 years at Sunwest, she’s known for her sharp attention to detail and knack for planning and policy creation. Like many at Sunwest Aviation, she’s proudly caught the aviation bug.

Together, this team helps turn potential into careers. From recruiting and onboarding to policy, development, and day-to-day support, they help ensure women across Sunwest have the tools, clarity, and backing to grow and lead in aviation.

Meet Chaney.

Chaney has been flying for five years, and her path to the flight deck started on the ground. Before stepping into the Dash 8, she spent three years on Sunwest’s ground crew, learning the operation from the ramp up and building the kind of practical experience that shows up in the details.

Her passion for flying started with her grandpa, who spent many years in aviation and used to fly for Sunwest. It’s a full-circle story, and one she carries with pride every time she heads to the aircraft.

These photos capture what Women of Aviation Week is all about: the people, the teamwork, and the many roles it takes to keep aviation moving safely and smoothly.

Thank you, Chaney, for bringing that ground-to-flight-deck perspective, and for representing the next generation of aviation professionals.

Meet Jordyn.

Jordyn joined Sunwest in April of 2021, fresh out of SAIT, and quickly became one of those people you want on your team when the work matters and the clock is not your friend. It’s no surprise she was promoted to Lead Hand to kick off 2026.

She holds her AME credentials and a pilot’s licence, which gives her the rare advantage of understanding an aircraft from both sides of the logbook.

These photos are a perfect snapshot of who she is: bringing her own aircraft to Sunwest for its annual inspection. It’s personal, it’s professional, and it says a lot about the pride she takes in doing things properly.

Beyond the hangar, Jordyn has represented Sunwest at job fairs and industry events, served as a judge at the 2024 Alberta Aviation & Aerospace Council Canadian AME Competition, and competed on the Sunwest team in 2025.

Women of Aviation Week is about recognizing the people who keep aviation moving forward. Jordyn is absolutely one of them.

From operations and dispatch to maintenance, flight crews, client support, and leadership, their work shows up in the details that matter: preparation, accountability, and teamwork.

This week we will be sharing a few stories and photos of the people behind the work. Please join us in celebrating them.
