When COVID hit, my work dried up almost overnight. Instead of waiting around hoping things would get better, I started Your Family Moving right here in Red Deer with basically nothing and just built it up from there.

Four years later, I am still here, still growing, and still learning something new every single week.

One thing I noticed early on is that people get nervous when they hire a moving company. The first question almost everyone asks me is whether there are hidden fees or a fuel charge tacked on at the end. I get it. Nobody wants to hand over their hard-earned money and then get surprised by a bill that looks nothing like what they were quoted. So we keep it simple. No hidden fees, no fuel charges, and we place every single item exactly where you want it in your new home.

A few weeks back we had a large move booked and I knew going in that it was going to be a big one. I made the call to bring two trucks just to be safe. We loaded up the first truck and kept going, and sure enough, we filled the second one too. Both trucks completely packed, one load, one trip, done. The customer stood there at the end and just looked relieved. That moment right there is why I do this.

Running this business has changed me in ways I did not expect. I manage employees now, coordinate large groups, delegate tasks, and solve random problems that pop up out of nowhere on moving day. None of that came naturally at first, but I have learned to handle it.

Outside of work, life is pretty good. Almost every sunny day you will find me and my daughter hopping on the e-scooter and heading down to the outdoor pool. She absolutely loves it and honestly so do I. There is something about watching her have the best time that makes all the hard work feel worth it.

If you are in Red Deer and thinking about a move, just know there is a local dad out here who started this from nothing and genuinely cares about doing right by his neighbors.

Also, what are your favourite things to do in the summer heat?

Our Customers almost became HOMELESS......

The sun was barely up over the Alberta horizon, casting long morning shadows across the pavement as Randy and Justin finished up their morning coffee. The calendar for the day was already set, but in the moving business, you learn quickly that plans can change in an instant.

Then the phone rang.

On the other end was a couple—terrified, exhausted, and on the brink of tears. Due to a sudden, last-minute cancellation by their previously booked movers and a strict, unyielding lease deadline from their landlord, they were facing an impossible situation. Their landlord was locking the doors at 5:00 PM sharp, and if everything wasn't out by then, their belongings would be put on the curb, leaving them effectively homeless with nowhere to turn.

Justin looked over at Randy, who was already reaching for his work gloves. There wasn't even a debate. "We're on our way," Justin told them. "Don't panic. We'll handle this."

When the Your Family Moving truck pulled into the driveway twenty minutes later, the scene was pure chaos. Stacks of unorganized boxes filled the hallway, heavy furniture was still fully assembled, and the couple was visibly shaking from the stress.

"Take a deep breath," Randy said with a reassuring smile as he stepped through the front door. "You guys sit back and relax. We're taking over."

What followed was a masterclass in teamwork and pure hustle. Randy took the lead on the heavy lifting, expertly maneuvering bulky dressers and couch frames through tight doorways with ease. Justin worked right alongside him, packing the truck with precision, securing fragile items, and keeping the tempo fast and steady.

They didn't just rush through the job—they cared for every single item as if it were their own, keeping the atmosphere light and calm to ease the couple's anxiety.

By 3:30 PM—an hour and a half ahead of the landlord's deadline—the old apartment was completely cleared, swept clean, and the keys were handed over. Shortly after, the crew had everything unloaded and neatly placed in the couple's new home.

As Randy and Justin closed the heavy back doors of the moving truck, the couple came over, overwhelmed with emotion. What started as a nightmare that could have left them stranded on the street ended with high-fives, hugs, and a massive weight lifted off their shoulders.

For Randy and Justin, it was more than just another day on the job—it was proof that moving isn't just about hauling boxes; it's about being there for people when they need a hand the most.

"Small Hands, Big Heart: Carrying the Weight of Tomorrow, Today."

The late afternoon sun cast long shadows across the driveway, painting the sky in warm shades of amber and gold. Standing near the back of the open moving truck, Kassini adjusted her tiny work gloves, making sure they were snug. At five years old, she had one main goal in life: to be just like her dad.
Her father, Justin, was a giant in her eyes. Broad-shouldered, patient, and always sporting a quick smile, he ran his moving business with a quiet pride that Kassini deeply admired. To her, he wasn't just transporting furniture and boxes—he was helping people start new chapters. Every day when he pulled up in the big truck, she would race to the window, eager to hear stories about the families he’d helped that day.
Today was special. It was her first official day as his "first mate" on a summer job.
Justin knelt down next to a stack of cardboard boxes, bringing himself down to her eye level. He adjusted the tiny pair of sunglasses resting on her nose and smiled.
"Alright, crew," Kassini said, his voice low and steady. "You ready for the heavy lifting?"
Kassini nodded fiercely, picking up a small, light box labeled Fragile. "Ready, Dad! I'm taking this one straight to the truck."
Justin watched her with a mixture of pride and tenderness as she carefully marched across the concrete, her small boots making firm, deliberate steps. She set the box down right where he had shown her, turning back with a beaming expression.
"How was my form?" she asked, wiping a speck of dust off her cheek.
"Perfect," Justin said, placing a gentle hand on her shoulder. "You've got the heart for this, kiddo. But remember, being strong isn't just about how much you can carry. It's about taking care of what's inside the box, and taking care of the people relying on you."
Kassini looked up at him, taking in his words. She knew he worked hard, early mornings and late nights, through heat and cold, always making sure every family felt cared for. She wanted that same strength—the kind that built trust and made people feel safe.
As the sun began to dip behind the tall spruce trees, they finished loading the last items. Justin handed her a juice box, and they sat side-by-side on the edge of the truck's tailgate, swinging their legs in unison.
"Dad?" Kassini asked softly, looking out at the glowing horizon. "Do you think when I grow up, I can drive the big truck?"
Justin laughed, a deep, warm sound, and wrapped an arm around her shoulder. "Kassini, when you grow up, you can run the whole company if you want. And you'll probably do a better job than me."
Kassini grinned, taking a sip of her juice. She didn't know what the future held, but sitting there next to her hero, she knew exactly whose footsteps she wanted to follow.
