Sad news from Freeman Station:
We regret to inform everyone that one of our valuable contributors and members, Bob Chambers, passed away this past Thursday November 10th.
Bob was a dedicated rail enthusiast, modeler and professional photographer who was involved with Freeman Station from the early days of FOFS.
Bob built and donated the model of the station (shown in this post) that now sits in the diorama and he took many photos that were part of our promotional literature and Hamilton Spectator write ups over the years.
In honour of their father, Angela and her brother Chris, have arranged to hold a memorial at Freeman Station on Wednesday November 16th from 6:00pm-9:00pm and Thursday the 17th from 9:00am-12:00pm. Chris
said that “I know the station and the people who devote their time to it were close to his heart”.
Chris informed us that his Dad had about 500,000 photos in his archive and some of those will be shown during the visitations on our waiting room monitor. They also plan to serve some ice cream in his memory, as this was a favorite snack of Bob’s.
On behalf of all of the volunteers and members of FOFs, our deepest condolences to the Chambers family.
Sincerely,
Al Norton
President

FRIENDS OF FREEMAN STATION – 2022 FALL FUNDRAISING CAMPAIGN

Thank you to all who have supported the restoration of Freeman Station and the continuing development of the site as a heritage attraction with a railway theme for Burlington.
We hope that you might consider us again when planning your giving for this year.
During 2022, the restoration work continued on our CN caboose, and at our September Open House we were able to open the caboose to the public, and it was an instant hit.
Operating costs have increased dramatically and are predicted to go even higher. We can all be proud of what we have achieved so far. This year 2022 marks our tenth anniversary since the station was moved to its permanent home. Relocation and restoration phases have been completed and now we are looking at preserving this valuable historic site for generations to come. With your contributions, Freeman Station will provide a lasting transportation legacy for Burlington.
Tax receipts will be issued for all gifts of $25 or more received by year end 2022.
There are several ways to donate: 1. Complete an e-transfer directly from your financial institution to the FOFS email address: [email protected]; or 2. Go to www.freemanstation.ca. Click on “Pay Pal” or “Canada Helps” at the bottom of the Home page; or 3. Send your cheque by mail to:
Friends of Freeman Station,

3023 New Street,
P.O. Box 91536, Roseland Plaza,

Thank you in advance for your generosity,
Al Norton, President, Friends of Freeman Station

Reg Button caught CN 4-8-4 6252 passing our train station in Burlington, Ontario in July 1955. 6252 was one of CN's large fleet of Northern Type steam engines built by MLW as part of the U2h class in 1943, so it was just 12 years old when Reg took this picture. 6252 was scrapped 5 years later in 1960.
