If you've flown with this airline before, you won't be so bothered by the WestJet seating controversy.

On our latest, we flew a Sunwing branded Boeing 737-800 to Mexico and we were "upgraded" to a WestJet Boeing 737 MAX 8 for the return trip back to Toronto.

Worlds apart.

The Sunwing seats are truly cramped while the WestJet plane offered ample leg room in economy. But, we were a somewhat regular customer of Sunwing's before they were bought by WestJet so we were used to flying in a sardine tin.

The joining of the two - at the airline level only - is a whee bit confusing. You need a WestJet app for the flight and a separate Sunwing app for the hotel and hotel transfer. But, the apps are actually user-friendly (unlike scene or grocery store apps)

As for onboard service - WestJet does blow away the old Sunwing - service you will now get regardless of the branding on the outside of the aircraft.
