After driving trucks for 18 years and working as a dispatcher, Larry knew the logistics and transportation business inside and out. He was tired of the daily grind and wanted a change and a better life for himself and his family. Using his knowledge of the industry and his drive, Larry began to lay the foundation for his own company.
Catherine Labatt
Catherine, Larryโs wife, went to school for business and had experience running a fitness studio franchise. She took the idea of a new company and made it reality. Scrawling a detailed business plan on a large piece of paper, they took it to the bank to ask for a start-up loan of $5,000. She also made a promise to make 1 million dollars in the first year. Their confidence and organization got them the loan, and the foundation was set.
Larway Transportation came began operations in 1985 in a shared office suite with little more than a hard-line telephone, a Rolodex, and their word to focus on people and their promise and not just cargo.
Taking on the important role of Sales Manager, Catherineโs brother Stuart Pound rounded out the companyโs strong family-oriented core.
Within the first year of operation, Larway crossed their million-dollar promise and continued to grow. Since then, the company has adapted to meet the needs of their customers and their drivers, leading the way in safety and reliability.
In a constantly changing and developing industry, one of Larwayโs most important qualities continues to be their word โ and that will never change.
