Both Petty and Ramon are well known in the local community as seasoned entrepreneurs in varied business areas. Di you knw The Placencia Peninsula was settled in the late 1800’s by the Garbutt family, who decided to settle and who eventually owned most of the Peninsula. In 1894 Abner Westby, whose family originated in Scotland, came to Placencia and purchased land from the Garbutts.

He was later joined by a younger member of his family, John Eiley. The Cabral family, originally from Lisbon, Portugal, closed their business in Sao Paulo, Brazil and the Caribbean and sailed to the southern part of Belize on two schooners, The Colibri and The Jane. Soon they began doing business with and eventually married into the Placencia community. In the early 1900’s the Leslie’s, originally from Rotan, also came to Placencia.

Placencia prospered and soon became a village

Our Story

Zippy Zappy Mayan Travels (formerly Mundo Maya Travels) is a family based business started in 1990 by Petty and Ramon Cervantes. Both Petty and Ramon are well known in the local community as seasoned entrepreneurs in varied business areas.

As of 1990, they have gained a place within a pioneering community dedicated to providing much needed services to world travelers visiting Belize.

They first acquired two outboard boats: Zippy and Zappy and began by offering boat trips from Belize City to the islands of San Pedro and Caye Caulker.

Ramón became involved in the pioneering and formation of a first boat operators association that would travel between Belize City and the islands assuring travelers with an efficient service.
