Do you really know what your shipment is worth when it arrives in The Bahamas?

Many importers focus on what they paid their supplier, but when it comes to Customs, there’s more to the calculation!

📌 LET’S TALK ABOUT CIF!

CIF = Cost + Insurance + Freight

This is generally the value Bahamas Customs uses as the starting point when calculating import duties.

💡 HERE’S AN EXAMPLE:

You purchase goods overseas for $10,000.

📦 Cost of Goods: $10,000

🚢 International Freight: $2,000

🛡️ Insurance: $200

💰 Total CIF Value: $12,200

Your Customs duty is generally calculated using the applicable tariff rate against that customs value—not simply the $10,000 you paid your supplier.

⚠️ NOW HERE’S WHERE THINGS GET EXPENSIVE!

Every product has an HS Code (Harmonized System Code) that determines how it is classified for Customs purposes.
