Dauphin, Pennsylvania, has no traffic lights and is the type of town where everyone knows your name -- including the UPS driver.

Chad Turns has been delivering packages for UPS to Dauphin for over a decade.

“Everyone knows how special Chad is,” resident Jenny Shickley shared. “If he thinks something might be a gift - and this happened to us - he literally didn’t deliver it when the kids were in the yard, he just drove by, and then he drove all the way back to our house after dark, because he was nervous it was a gift and didn’t want to ruin it for the kids.”

Dauphin, Pennsylvania is a small town with a big heart.

"A key reason for rising product prices is a rise in input price in China that comes on the back of factory gate inflation - which rose to a record of 10.7% on-year in September due to surging commodity prices globally, according to China's statistics bureau.

The situation is exacerbated by an energy crisis that has sent coal prices to a record high in China. Last week, Chinese authorities allowed electricity to rise as much as 20% against a benchmark - up from the previous 10% level."

Rising input cost are prompting Chinese exporters to hike prices, adding to global inflation risk amid the global shipping crisis.

"The explosive growth in online sales has magnified one of e-commerce’s biggest problems: returns. The average brick-and-mortar store has a return rate in the single digits, but online, the average rate is somewhere between 15 and 30 percent. For clothing, it can be even higher, thanks in part to bracketing—the common practice of ordering a size up and a size down from the size you think you need. Last year, U.S. retailers took back more than $100 billion in merchandise sold online.

All of that unwanted stuff piles up. Some of it will be diverted into a global shadow industry of bulk resellers, some of it will be stripped for valuable parts, and some of it will go directly into an incinerator or a landfill."

What happens to the stuff you order online after you send it back?

It's difficult to understand the enormity of dozens of hulking cargo ships waiting to dock along the Southern California shore unless you've seen it for yourself. A video breaks down how ports in Los Angeles and Long Beach track and organize as many as 500,000 shipping containers.

The video shows the cargo ships that wait an average of 10 days to as long as a month to dock and unload at two of the largest ports in the US. While the glut of ships may appear haphazard to the untrained eye, Freight Right CEO Robert Khachatryan explains in the video that the cargo ships have been laid out in a very specific formation designed to keep the shipping lanes clear for incoming and outgoing vessels, as well as prevent the massive ships from crashing into each other. Up until Oct. 1, the Postal Service said it should take no more than three days for a piece of first-class mail to be delivered anywhere in the country. After Oct. 1, it will take between two and five days.

That’s because the Postal Service is changing the way it transports your mail. The Postal Service used to put about 20 percent of your mail on airplanes to move it across the country. This is the mail that was going from coast to coast, and to make the three-day service standard, the agency had to move it faster than was possible on a truck.

From Oct. 3 to Dec. 26, the Postal Service is raising prices on some products through a holiday season surcharge. The price hikes are modest for some products (30 cents more for first-class package service), a bit more for others ($1 more for parcel-return service, deliveries from consumers back to retailers), and heftier still for others ($5 more for priority mail, priority express mail, parcel select and retail ground services for items weighing between 21 and 70 pounds).

Systemwide changes at the U.S. Postal Service, including planned service slowdowns and price hikes, take effect in the beginning of October.
